If you feel tired after waking up at 6am, even when you went to bed at 10 pm, you might ask yourself If there's something wrong with you. You begin to tell you all these things like "It may be the coffee", "My curtains let the sun pass through my face in the morning" and many more. However, the real cause for why you feel tired is still because of poor sleep, this meaning that you don't sleep enough hours. This doesn't mean that you should sleep 10 hours (Unless you have a special condition which calls for It or you are an elder person which requires more rest), but that you should be mindful of the fact that If you go to bed at an specific hour, you won't fall asleep immediately, which is precisely the topic of this article, in which I will talk about sleep efficiency, the mistakes we commit when try to follow It and the only thing we can do to improve our sleep deprivation problems so you can be free of this unpleasant feeling. Let's begin:

Sleep Efficiency

Sleep efficiency is simply the percentage of time we are asleep when we are in our beds, with a percentage for healthy young adults that goes from 80 to 85%. This means that If you go to bed and you keep scrolling through your phone you are not in the period of sleep efficiency. For example, If you are already in bed by 10pm and you have a sleep efficiency percentage of 80%, of the 8 hours between 10 and 6pm, you will only sleep 6 of them. No wonder for why you still feel tired.

What can I do about It?

It is simple. You just have to go to bed earlier than that, meaning that If you have to wake up by 6 A.M with a sleep efficiency of 80%, you'll have to go to bed at 8pm If you want to guarantee that you will sleep 8 hours. However, another thing you should be careful of is using your phone in those 10 hours prior to you waking up, because of the blue lights emitted by our screens and the hyperstimulation which activities like playing videogames or watching videos cause to our brains, which affects our circadian rhythm, making It much more harder for us to fall asleep. So, the only way to get a good night's sleep is to go to bed 1,5/2 hours before and not use our phones during this period, thing that even If It sounds hard, It's worth It.
