A short life or a long life

I know for sure that everyone of us has probably spent days where we can achieve all our set tasks in question of just a few hours and have the rest of the day free, as there are others where we just can't get a thing done after 7-8 hours of work. Well, as monotonous as this might sound, we are actually making our life shorter with this. I'm not talking in terms of It compromising our health and making us Ill, though I mean It in the sense of time wasted, time that will not get back as the hours had just passed. It's because of this that I want to quote in this article a quote from the multitalented author Jean-Jacques Rousseau that says The man who has lived the most is not he who has counted the most years but he who has most felt life, a beautiful phrase that encapsulates perfectly the importance of meaningful time and really getting the most out of every second in order to feel our life can be longer than what It really is destined to be. Let's examine It in detail:

What does this mean?

To understand better what this rephrain is trying to convey us, I will separate time into three categories, one defined for quality time, and the other ones for required time along with wasted time. The first category is the one that is really spent in activities that make your life better and more meaningful, such as spending time with family and friends, discovering new things and places and practicing the craft you dearly love, everything that just makes you feel engaged having a humble attitude towards everything that the worlds has to offer. The second one, required time, involves all the menial tasks we have in life, such as the time dedicated to the paperwork for finally setting our business as a legal entity or all the stupid classes we have to take in order to get our diploma, being all that time that we have to dedicate to that which even If It is tiresome and boring, It is absolutely necessary for us to keep progressing. The third one is pretty simple, wasted time, all the moments spent procrastinating and checking your phone instead of doing what you should be doing.

Days are not just time, they are progress

It comes as no surprise that wasted time gets in the way between what's required and what's meaningful for us, as usually what can make room for more hours that we can use in what we really like are those things that we can't stand to do, whether because of their difficulty or because they'll show how inexperienced we are, being much more easier to just binge watch series all day. However, at the end of the day, all that It will leave of us with is a sense of shallowness, as we feel empty inside because of nothing being made, and in the long run, a sense of having disposed precious years of our lifespan.

However, a way to see time more productively and actually allow us to enjoy more out of every day, is to see every one of them as not hours, just progress towards a particular goal, progress that can be faster or slower depending of the focused time we can dedicate to getting our objectives done.

Following this path, a great way to start would be to define clearly what your objectives are for every stage of your life, so you know what to aim for, and to pursue them in a focused and controled way, breaking down every necessary step to get there, so you can avoid taking wrong decisions. In this way you will be able to take advantage of your most precious resource and get free time in order to enjoy what's really important, keeping in mind that with every second you spend avoiding what you have to do, you are taking a second out of your life.

I hope that with this article I could have provided you with the importance of spending time wisely, and how wasting It can be really detrimental for your enjoyment of life, reminding you of how a life that's worth remembering is one that is full of great experiences, with Its fair share of routinary work. Thank you for support and Good Luck!
