In the next series of paragraphs we will talk about a commonly used device for showcasing sequences of specific elements, such as images, letters or numbers, all by lighting specific LEDs in the matrix. Let's begin

What is an LED Matrix?

An LED Matrix is plain and simply an array of LEDs, having exactly the amount of diodes that are specified according to the dimensions of this elements (i.e, a 6x8 Matrix is formed by 48 LEDs). According to the type of configuration of the Matrix, It can have two types of arrangements.

Types of LED Matrix Arrangements:

  • Common Anode: All the Anodes of a particular column share the same input, hence Its name.

  • Common Cathode: All LED cathodes in a same column are connect to a shared ground.

Advantages of LED Matrixs:

The first and most obvious advantage that an LED matrix has when paired with the use of individual diodes is Its cost, being less expensive and having the same amount of LEDs than a DIY connection.

The second advantage would be Its simplicity, saving the user the time and headaches of implementing the matrix via placing the diodes one by one with an specific routing.

And the third would be Its flexibility, by being able to connect to different outputs from many devices, following different directions according to what's determined by the configuration of components.

We hope that with the Info presented you'll be able to make a sound decision on whether you want to acquire an LED matrix or not, by showcasing Its features and proving how It can be of use to you, we recommend you to always have caution in order to preserve the device.
