Every nation of the world has their own mother language. We also have our own mother language. There is a history behind the international mother language day.

The history of the international mother language day started after dividing the Indian subcontinent into two part. The name of the two country was India and Pakistan. Pakistani had two part East Pakistan and West Pakistan. West Pakistan was the main part of the Pakistan. West Pakistan used “urdu” as their national language and most of the people of the East Pakistan was bangali. They used “Bangladesh” as their mother language. There was a bargaining that which was the mother language of the Pakistan.

In 1937 Mohammed Ali Zinna announce “Urdu” as the official language of “Muslim League”. But Bangali leader “Shera Bangla A.K. Fajlul Hocuk” disagree with his announcement. In 25 February 1948 Dherandro Nath Datta represented a opinion that Pakistan government should use Bangla besides Urdu and English as a parliament language. But West Pakistan government didn’t response on it. To save the rights of our nation in parliament we stripped in Dhaka in 26 and 29 February. Dhaka University refounded “Sorbodolio Songram porisod” They announce 11 March as “Bangla vasa Dabi dibos”.

In 19 March 1948 Governor General Mohammed Ali Zinna came to Dhaka. In 21 st March Zinna attended a meeting at Racecourse field and he said Urdu would be the only national language in Pakistan. He also said the same speech at Dhaka University student meeting. The students of the Dhaka University immediately rejoined on his speech.

The new prime minister of Pakistan gave the same speech in 26 January 1952 at Palton ground. To rejoined this type of speech the students took strike in 30 January.

In 21 st February 1952 the West Pakistan government applied the 144 rule to stop the movement of the students and common people. But the students decided to break the 144 rule. Some of students was breaking the 144 rule from the Dhaka Medical College.

At first the police arrested the students and charged on them but at a time they fire on the students and the common people.

Rafiq, Barkat, Salam, Zabbar,Safik and many other people lost their lives on that movement. After this matter the movement turned into a huge big movement all over the country.

The West Pakistan government didn’t stop the movement and they accepted the all wishes of the nation and they permitted Bangla as their National language.

After a bloody war in 1971 we achieved independence and our country known as Bangladesh all over the world. In 17 th November 1999 the UNESCO appeared our national mother language day as International mother language.
