Reviewing the security of all your online accounts from time to time is very important, and at first glance it may come to your mind to review the security of key accounts, such as email or work accounts first, but nevertheless you should not forget to secure your accounts in entertainment services, such as: the broadcast service Music (Spotify).

Here are 5 ways to help you secure your Spotify account:

1- Set a strong password:

The basic step that you can take to protect any account is to use a unique and complex password, as a long password that contains a mixture of letters, numbers and symbols is difficult to crack, and at the same time it cannot be easily guessed, and you can use a password manager application to create the password. Your own and store them, so you don't have to remember them yourself.

2- Activate the two-factor authentication feature on your Facebook account:

If you signed up for Spotify using a Facebook account, you cannot change your Spotify password, so activate the (two-factor authentication) 2FA feature in your Facebook account before you register on the Spotify app.

Doing so will protect your Spotify account, and then you will need to use the verification code sent to your phone to log into the app from any new device, knowing that Spotify does not offer the two-factor authentication feature yet.

3- Remove third-party app access:

Spotify integrates with a variety of operating systems and applications, such as: PlayStation, which allows you to play music while you play, and Shazam, which allows you to save the songs you constantly enjoy with tags in the playlist, etc., and then to use Spotify with these services and applications you must register Log in with your account.

But over time, you might have allowed some apps to use Spotify account, which is why you should delete these apps, and to do so follow these steps:

  • Open Spotify account page in web browser.

  • On the left side of the page itself, click on the (Applications) option.

  • You will see a page showing all the apps that you have linked to your account, along with a brief summary of them.

  • Click on the Remove Access option for any application that you do not want to link to your Spotify account.

4- Log out of all sessions when needed:

If you suspect that someone is using your Spotify account without your permission, or you lose a device and are automatically logged into your account, you must log out of all sessions, to do so follow these steps:

  • Open Spotify account page in web browser.

  • On the left side of the screen, click on the "Account overview" tab.

  • Scroll down to the section (Signout everywhere).

  • Click on the option (Sign Out Everywhere).

Note: This will not log you out from other devices, such as: PlayStation, as you need to manually log out from these devices, however, clicking on this option will log you out of all versions of Spotify app, such as: web, phone and desktop applications .

5- Update Spotify frequently:

To keep your account secure, you should update the Spotify app whenever available, as running the latest version protects you from exploits targeting older versions.

Usually, the application installs any available update automatically, once you close the application and restart it again, and on most modern devices, automatic updates are enabled by default.
