World Egg Day is celebrated on the second Friday of October every year.
The International Egg Commission (IEC) was established in 1974 to establish eggs as one of the best and most widely available non-vegetarian foods in the world. At present the number of members of this organization is 80. The organization organized the first World Egg Day in 1998 in Vienna, Austria, to meet the demand for animal meat, build a healthy and meritorious nation and, above all, raise public awareness about the quality of eggs. Currently, World Egg Day is celebrated in 40 countries around the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, India, etc., the scope and scope of which is gradually increasing.
In 2013, Bangladesh Animal Agriculture Society (BAAS) was appointed as the Bangladesh Representative of the International Egg Commission. On October 11 of the same year, World Egg Day was observed for the first time in Bangladesh, which was the 18th World Egg Day. Since then, World Egg Day is celebrated in Bangladesh every year.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is working together to develop the world's egg industry through a memorandum of understanding with the International Egg Commission. In this context, realizing the importance of the day under the supervision and cooperation of the International Egg Commission and FAO, the Government Livestock Department, Krishibid Institution Bangladesh and various government organizations as well as non-governmental organizations such as Bangladesh Poultry Industry Central Committee (Poultry Industries Central Council) Many organizations, universities and institutions and various professional organizations have been observing the day regularly in all the departmental and district cities including Dhaka.
