Being a celebrity has its ups and downs.

A lot of folks here would feel I'm not in the right position to talk about this topic, seeing I'm not a celebrity or I'm not related to one. Well, you might be wrong about the second one though.

Anyways, you're right about the first one though. I'm not in the right position to talk about this. But I have the right facts, backed up by close study of these celebrities.

The common perception is that celebrities have everything needed in this life. After all, the grass isn't always greener on the other side, isn't it?

Well, the truth is that as there are so many advantages and benefits of being a celebrity, there are also many known and unknown disadvantages. Before we go into details, I want to imprint in your heart that celebrities are also humans. They're not aliens or robots. They also get hungry, heart broken, sleepy, tired, angry, horny, etc. What I'm saying is they also have feelings just as every other human beings do. The way you get angry sometimes and act out, a celebrity also has the freedom of acting out when pissed off.

Now let's get down to business.

Three major advantages of being a celebrity

1. As a celebrity, you are treated specially wherever you go.

It's no surprise that someone like Kim Kardashian or Justin Bieber would receive preferential treatment almost wherever they went. It's not something you can help. People tend to worship celebrities whenever they have the chance of meeting them. From movie theaters, to shopping mall, to concerts etc. A lot of people would also love to get those kinda treatments wherever they go, even if they try to deny that fact. I would love to be have special treatments too. Not really into celebrity worship but, the preferential treatment seems great.

2. Being famous automatically makes you richer.

Money isn't a problem to celebrities. Rather, what seems like a problem to is how to spend the money. They go from buying expensive houses to luxurious cars, to expensive dresses, jewellery. Some even go as far as getting their own private jets. The money is just there for them to spend. I don't know about you, but I'd like to have access to that kind of supply of money. So many things I'd love to use money for. Most of the expensive houses or lands or dresses owned, are mostly owned by celebrities. They know that no matter how they spend, they always replacements.

3. They often always get the girl.

Before I even grew up to know this fact, I've already experienced it. OK, let me tell you a very short story. In junior school, I was kinda a celebrity in school. I was bright both academically and in complexion. Yeah!! I was fair and I looked really good. The ladies could testify to that(I'm not trying to brag). There was a junior of mine who liked a girl in his class. I also liked the girl too. To cut the long story short, I got the girl. He lost, I won.

I've seen this incident repeat itself over and over again. Both in high school, university, real life, church etc... Most Girls are attracted to success so, it's not really a thing of debate most times.

There are so much more advantages to talk about, ranging from fans to recognition to ambassadorial deals and a lot more. But I'll stop here for now. Let's go to some of the disadvantages.

Some disadvantages of being a celebrity.

1. Famous people can't do things that the average person can do.

What do you think would happen if Selena Gomez were to step into the shopping mall like everyone else and go shopping for groceries? Well, let me answer your question, she'd get mobbed and a whole lot of bad stuff could happen. Celebrities don't have the liberty to enjoy that simple life that most of them crave for. They are most times forced to live the complicated lives they didn't choose. Even luxury can't fill in for that pleasure derives from being able to live without fear of being mobbed or mailed for autographs and all. Below are some of the pleasures of life that I speak of:

  • Have a nice dinner with family at a local restaurant

  • Going shopping at the grocery store.

  • Skinny dipping at the pool

  • Taking your dog for a walk down the streets without fear of the media.

2. Most celebrities attract stalkers.

Never been stalked before? I hope you wouldn't be. If you follow the tabloids, you'd gave read stories on some celebrities who have been stalked by fans who have become obsessed with them. These fans would start harassing them through emails, phone calls, texts. These harassment can also become physical. A lot of celebrities change contact information a lot because of these kind of situations.

3. Celebrities lack privacy.

If Katy Perry decides to step in the beach with her bikini to get some sun in Miami, the while world would know about it. The tabloids and media would go as far as looking for a fault in that photo just to increase sales and then in turn, may ruin the career of that celebrity. Like I said in the beginning of this article, celebrities are humans also, they have feelings, they can also catch a cold. Imagine Kim Kardashian catches a cold one day and is caught sneezing on camera, that'll be a juicy story. Like cause she's a celebrity, she can't sneeze? The story would somehow be twisted. Well, its a price to pay for the fame.

Because of all this lack of a normal life, celebrities spend huge amounts of money to protect their career and privacy, and to also try to get a feel of that normalcy. I remember one time, Michael Jackson wanted to get a feel of what it's like to shop for himself, he had to pay the grocery store to lock the door from anyone else just so he could shop. Just his friends and family were in the store, they also acted like they were shopping too, just to make it look real. That's a lot of money spent on something the average man can do everyday.

If you have more points, you can add.
