When Major Aliyu Abubakar arrived at the Lekki Toll gate with the entire Fajuyi squad, he could not believe his eyes. Before him were thousands of youths who had left the comfort of their home to protest against the police brutality, most of them were no older than his first daughter Hamidat who was schooling in Canada away from the troubles and unrest in the country. Were these the armed and violent bandits Oga warned him about? They looked more helpless than dangerous, most of them had the Nigerian flag in their hands and the majority understood the gesture. They were just peaceful protesters and not aggressive bandits as Oga had earlier said.

As if reading his mind, Aliyu's phone rang at that moment revealing the same private caller as before, he paused for a moment before picking the call. "Hello Saah '', Aliyu said, swallowing hard to hide his fear from Oga. What would Oga say now? Would he go back on his decision and let these innocent youths go? .His thoughts were far from the bitter facts, "Are your men in position?" the raspy voice asked, "Yes saah, we are in position",Aliyu added quickly, "But we can't find the bandits yet, na some protesters dey here wey just siddaun for ground". There was silence for a moment.

"Those are the bandits Aliyu", Oga at the top said without emotion in his voice. "Do what is asked of you when the lights go out, give the order and teach those bastards that I'm not to be messed with". A bird hooted somewhere far away into the night, the line went off instantly just as the bells of a nearby church began to ring indicating 7pm, his men were all ready and looking up to him to give the order. In order to eliminate, lay waste and turn desolate, his mind shuddered at the thought of a bullet tearing through the tender flesh of innocent youths.

Aliyu's heart raced, he was a father too and he knew how bad it would hurt him if anything happened to any of his kids. He was clearly at a crossroads;the King's river was too high to be crossed and the king's message could not be left undelivered. Aliyu was between.

@macr thank you so much, you've been wonderful.
I'm happy to have benefited immersely from the first edition of #BeSupportive.

Then the lights went off abruptly leaving the whole space in total darkness, Aliyu had to make the toughest decision of his life at this very moment, his mind wanted him to be an hero but his courage failed him. "FIRE!!!!", he heard himself say with a harsh and cruel voice that he never heard before. Tears stung Aliyu's eyes as the men of the Fajuyi Division began shooting at the unarmed protesters who stood in solidarity  t i l l  t h e   e n d.
