1st of all I am going to say, this is gonna be a pretty big article. Hope you guys will read it with patience cause it's interesting😗😗😗.
Let me tell you what is cloning. In short, Cloning is the process of producing similar product that is exactly identical to the product it is produced from. And cloning in biotechnology means production of an organism which is genetically identical to the individual it is producrd from.
Now here comes Dolly. In February 1996, Ian Wilmnt and his colleagues became successful in producing world's 1st cloned mammal, Dolly the Finn Dorsett sheep at the Rosalin Institute in Edinburgh,Scotland.
So how she was created. Let's have a quick look at the process.
Two types of sheeps were used, Finn Dorsett sheep amd Scottish Black Face sheep. The nuclear form of the mammary cell from Fin Dorsett was combined with the enucleated mammary cell of Scottish Blace Face. The combination was stimulated with electricity to fuse the two cells and stimulate cell division. The embryo was transplanted in the Scottis Black Face ship. When the sheep no 6 LL3, Dolly was born on July 5th, she was a Fin Dorsett sheep.😍😍
Looks very easy, isn't it?.😘😘😘Some may have started thinking I'll creat one tomorrow in my Lab. But it's not that easy dude, Ian has performed the same procedure over over 400 times and only this one was successful😑😑.
I am not going to make it long. Dolly was perfectly healthy. But soon controversy started that people should not do that God is doing. Creating clones are illegal etc etc. Many protests took place. Some said if it is available, one day schools boys will be able to clone also and etc etc.
But interesting fact is Dolly died at the age of 6 though the average lifespan of a sheep is 12. More to add chill, Dolly was cloned from a 6 year old sheep. So it is possible that when dolly was born, she had already the body parts similar to a 6 year old sheep and she lived another 6 to make it to 12. But some says that's not the case and Dolly died normally. I have also the same question but my teachers gave contradictory answers so I am not clear either and hadn't done any good research after the fact. But I think if the cell was 6 years old, all the important organelles were also 6 years old and they replicated and after years their efficiency decreased too. So not clear on that fact.
Common question answer
Human cloning is banned as it may be the cause of creating bad persons and biological weapons.
Hope you liked this article.😉😉
This happens in most genetically modified organisms. Maybe they did became successful in one specific trait but it could also be possible that they didn't achieve that on the other. In this case, it could be that they did not achieve a longer life span- which could be affected by both genetics and environment.
