The Rainy Season

Bangladesh is a land of six seasons. Each season consists of two months. The rainy season consists of the Bangla months of Ashar and Sravan. But we cannot mark its duration by any fixed date. Actually it exists upto Ashwin. It arrives after the crucial summer in order to quench the thirst of the earth and animals and plants.

The monsoon that blows from the Bay of Bengal causes rainy season in Bangladesh. Excessive heat of the summer causes depression in the sea. The atmosphere changes. It causes cyclone and the long rainy days in Bangladesh.

During rainy season, the sky remains overcast with dark clouds. Sometimes patches of dark clouds float in the sky. It rains heavily of hours together. Often it stays for a week together. Roads and fields go under water. Land becomes damp and swampy. Rivers, canals and ponds become full to the brim.

Normal life is disturbed. Roads get muddy. Country boats ply here and there. Sometimes excessive rain causes floods. Green trees and shrub look greener. Trees and plants grow rapidly. Flowers bloom. Everything looks green all around.

The rainy season is boon to our county. It gives the soil necessary water. It helps plants grow. Rainwater makes agriculture easier. It purifies our atmosphere. It makes soil wet and soft and keeps the country green. It provides the soil with necessary water. It is a must for agriculture and economy because our agriculture much depends on it. Besides it is essential to lessen the extrėme heat of summer and quench the thirst of nature and living beings. It paves the way of breeding of fishes and we get a lot of protein from these fishes. We can also go from one place to another by boat. Our communication becomes easier.

Rainy season may turn into curse. It may cause flood and destroy crops, houses and kills people and livestock. Cough and cold may spread in an epidemic scale. It often disrupts road communication. The people remain indoors most of the time. The cattle are confined to their sheds with insufficient fodder.

Excessive rains cause flood and it brings sufferings for the people. Flood has often far reaching effect on us. It causes dwelling houses and stading crops wash away. When water subsides different types of diseases break out.

Rain brings life to the soil. It keeps away drought. Rainy season is friendly to nature. It makes our nariculture casier and cheaper. It makes Bangladesh a real agricultural country.
