One day when Leonard Shelby and his wife were asleep, two men entered their house and raped his wife, but she did not die. Leonard kills one and the other hits him on the head and escapes. This injury causes problems in his brain, and he suffers from short time memory loss problem.

As a result, he lost his memory for 15 minutes in a row. But his wife wonders if he is lying to her so he asks Leonard to give her insulin. His wife asks him to give her insulin every 15 minutes, since he can't remember anything after 15 minutes, so he gives her insulin repeatedly.

His wife died as a result of repeated insulin injections. Since he can't take new memory after injury, he has forgotten everything. According to old memory, he thinks his wife has been murdered and a murderer has escaped, so he must avenge his wife's murder.

Then began the episode of Revenge. Upon learning of his condition, an undercover policeman named Teddy wants to help him. He collects all the data and tells Leonard that the person he is looking for is John G. and that he manages to kill him in collaboration with Teddy.

But because of his short time memory loss, he also forgets about his revenge. Then he starts looking for his wife's killer again. Then Teddy starts thinking because I use Leonard for my work. So he kills a man named Jimmy with Leonard for his own benefit, but before Jimmy dies he suspects that he is not the one he is looking for.

So Leonard, Teddy writes "Don't believe his lies" behind the name of the picture.
He then met a girl named Natalie. When he found out about Leonard's problem, he started using him. A boy named Dodd starts disturbing her so he uses Leonard to drive Dodd away from the city. Since Leonard has helped Natalie, she wants to help him too. So he sends an envelope to Leonard.

Where Teddy had all the information. Teddy's real name was John Gammell in the unfortunate chrome, meaning John G. So he thought this was his wife's real killer. So Leonard writes on the back of his picture "He is the one. Kill him." Then Leonard kills Teddy while sitting at the place where he killed Jimmy.
It is one of Christopher Nolan's most remarkable creations.
