greetings my friends.. I have been away for a while but I'm back. Do well to enjoy my posts

Text: 2 Kings 1: 9

“Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty men. So he went up to him; and there he was, sitting on the top of a hill. And he spoke to him: “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!”

Mountains generally are not easily accessible, it takes effort to ascend any formidable mountain that alone makes mountain a reserved place for special set of people. Mountains naturally are not noisy places, hardly will you find anyone without a purpose on the mountain, because the effort required to climb the mountain is enough to discourage anyone without a genuine purpose from climbing. Mountains naturally creates a feeling of being closer to God, perhaps due to the fact that it is so far above sea level and maybe that is the risen why right from time immemorial till date the mountain remains an attractive resort centre to seek God and to be in the presence of God. The prophet Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18: 42) to wait on God for rain, our Lord Jesus Christ in earthly ministry also on several occasions went to the mountain top to pray (Luke 6: 12; 21: 37).

The mountain gives you the best view possible of your surroundings. When you are on the mountain early signs of trouble becomes easily noticeable and so adequate steps can be taken to avert the crisis. This is the logic behind the erection of watchtowers. The advent of technology has made watchtowers to be unnecessary now, back in the days of old, watchtowers are very important and necessary structures in any nation that is security conscious. Watchmen are usually posted in turns to mount the watchtowers and be on the lookout for unwelcomed guest or any signs of trouble (2 Kings 9: 17-23). The mountaintop therefore also represents watchfulness, the life on the mountain top is a life that is watchful and so hardly does anything catch such a person by surprise.

Residents on the mountain are seldom affected by whatever may be going on in the plain, they may not even be aware that there is problem or trouble. The very fact that they are on the mountain makes them unreachable or inaccessible to whatever may be happening to those who are on the plain. While Moses was on the mountain accompanied by Joshua, to commune with God and to receive the ten commandment, he was not aware that trouble was brewing within the camp of the Israelites, it was God that told him and even then he apparently did not grasp the enormity of the problem until he descended the mountain and saw things for himself (Exod. 32: 7-8, 19-21). So the mountaintop lifestyle insulates you from trouble or problems associated with those who dwell in the plain.

The mountain by nature is a secluded place and that makes it very suitable as a restful place, a place to go when you seek to withdraw from the hustle and bustle of life. A place that is quiet and peaceful. That I guess was the reason why Elijah was on the mountain when the captain of fifty and his boys visited him to arrest him. My guess is that, he probably went there so that he can have some privacy to allow him cool off and rest for a while and that may be the reason why he did not take kindly to the captain and his men coming to invade his privacy and disturb his rest, we know the rest of the story, the captain and his boys paid dearly for this infraction, they did not leave to tell the story. The mountain top lifestyle is a life that guarantees rest. Rest from life’s pressures and excessive tension.

The mountaintop lifestyle is the inheritance of God’s children available to them the moment they surrender their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ. So if you are a child of God, do not settle for less, insist on this quality lifestyle because that is God’s provision for you. I pray that the Lord will set you free from everything that will deny you of this mountaintop life style in Jesus name. Amen. Shalom.

Prayer Point

1. Father, thank you for the all the provision you are made for me to permanently enjoy the mountaintop lifestyle

2. Father, please deliver me from anything that will seek to deny me of this quality lifestyle in Jesus name.
