Text: 1Pet 1:15
'But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct'.
Before we came to know Christ and to receive Him as Lord and Saviour, we lived in ignorance and desired to do the opposite of what God wants for us. But because the God that has called us out of sin is holy, He demands that we are like Him as His representatives in this world (2Cor 5:20).
The bible says that as He is, so we are in this world(I John 4:17) This means that whatever Christ will not do must not be seen in our lives. Therefore, in the conduct of our business, career, academics, relationshipโ in all that we do, with no exception of any aspect of our lives, we must be holy. Some people make exceptions when holiness is discussed. For instance, a brother once said that it is impossible to be in business and not to tell lies. This is not true. The bible makes no exception on the issue of holiness, therefore, we have no excuse for sin, no matter the situation.
Many people have argued the possibility of being holy in a world like ours. They say that no matter how you try, you cannot live without sin. We must know that if it were impossible for us to be holy, God wouldn't have commanded us to be holy. In 1John 3:9, we see that it is the seed of the word of God in us that helps us to be holy.
With the word of God firmly rooted in our hearts and with total submission to it, we are guided in the path of holiness (Ps 119:4,5,11). Then, people will see Christ in us and be drawn to Him. Always remember that sin is of the devil but righteousness is the nature of God. Righteousness is the nature of God which we must put on as we have come to know Him (Eph 4:22-32).
