Read and remain blessed
Text: 2 Sam. 9: 3-4
“Then the king said, “Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, to whom I may show the kindness of God?” And Ziba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan who is lame in his feet.” So the king said to him, “Where is he?” And Ziba said to the king, “Indeed he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo Debar.”.”
Valleys generally describes a low point or condition. Man at every point in his life will be in either of three places or condition. He will either be on heights (mountain), on the plain or in the valley. To be on the height or on the mountain is to be at the peak of something good, a general word for this is to say that the person is highly successful, this is where everyone desire to be. To be on the plain is to be merely getting by, you may also describe it as being average. People in this condition of life are those just managing and barely making ends meet. They are still struggling frantically to rise and they are getting some measure of results. This condition is not desirable and this is where many find themselves today, although it is still better than the valley experience. The valley is the place where people struggle and get little or no result and some in the valley have even stopped struggling, they have accepted their fate as residents of the valley for life. Many also are in this condition of life today, though it is not a place that they want to be.
Everyone will certainly love to be on the mountain and so if the mountain is a place that is easily attainable, many will certainly love to be there, truth however is that not many people are on the mountain, it takes the help of God to access the mountain and to stay there. Also there are determinants in life that naturally places individuals in one of these three places. These determinants can be human, it can be spiritual and it can be natural. Human factors can include connections to persons who are already at the top, this can get you to the top but may not necessarily keep you there. Human factors may also take you to the valley and may keep you there for a while if there is no superior help to break you away from there. Spiritual factors can be either negative (satanic forces) or positive (God). People may get to the top via negative forces, such as use of charms and others but it cannot be sustained and it will always end in disgrace and shame. Natural forces such as natural disasters, wars and so on can also place people into either of these three places.
Mephibosheth was an example of someone who at one time was at the mountain by reason of his position as the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul. But he was at the top through human effort but his position at the top could not be sustained, the destruction of the dynasty of Saul coupled with the accident that crippled him for life demoted him from the top to the valley. To all those reading this, you will never suffer demotion in Jesus name. Whatever it is that takes a man to the valley can keep him there even for life if he does not receive capable help that can bring him out. For Mephibosheth for instance if not for the intervention of David, he would have remained in the valley for the rest of life.
The story of Mephibosheth demonstrate that movement from the valley to the top does not necessarily need to take long, it can happen fast, as fast as the twinkle of an eye. Secondly, it shows to us that movement from the valley to the top is not necessarily through hard work contrary to the thinking of many. Hard work is good and necessary because God does not encourage laziness, rather He encourages His children to work hard, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might” (Eccl. 9: 10). Hard work however is not a guarantee for promotion to the top. There are many people who are working hard today but have remained rooted to the valley. By a mere pronouncement from David, Mephibosheth’s position changed from valley to the mountain, in the same way all we need is divine pronouncement for us to move from the valley to the top. The story of Mephibosheth teaches us however that to get to the top is one thing, to remain at the top is another. The same hand that brought a man to the top can bring a man down. That was the experience of Mephibosheth, but that will not be your experience in Jesus name.
When you become a child of God, God Himself positions you at the top and keeps you there, valley experience is not for any of God’s children. There will always be effort on the path of man and satanic agents to bring a child of God from the top to the valley but such effort will not prevail. If you find yourself at the valley as a child of God, this is not the will of God for you and so if you will look up to Him, refuse to accept the valley and aggressively call upon the Lord, He will relocate you to your rightful place. And when He brings you out of the valley, no one can take you back there unless you break the edge. God will help you never to break the edge of His protection and grace upon your life in Jesus name. Amen. Shalom
