Read and be blessed
Text: Genesis 19:12-26
When God decided to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of their sins, He sent angels to visit the place, deliver the righteous and to destroy the city. We see Abraham pleading that the city be spared for the sake of the righteous in the previous chapter. But in his conversation with the angels, he discovered that they were not up to ten people who were saved in the city. Of course, God was not going to destroy the righteous with the ungodly. Lot's in-laws had the opportunity of being saved but when Lot told them of the impending destruction, they thought he was joking. So Lot, his wife and two daughters were the only ones that set out to escape the destruction. The angels who brought them out asked them to run as fast as they could and not to look back. Nevertheless, Lot's wife looked back and became a pillar of salt.
In difficult situations, it is not enough for God arise for our deliverance, a lot depends on us. The word of God is a set of instructions that we must follow if our deliverance from the power of sin, sickness, distress must be complete. Jesus gave an illustration in Matthew 12 verse 43-45. When a person is delivered from evil spirits, he must give himself totally to the word of God and prayers and live in obedience to God. If the person fails to engage in all these, he will be open for worse attack from the enemy. Lot's wife perished at the verge of deliverance because she couldn't concentrate on the new life God was taking them to. She still had an attachment with the old. We must separate ourselves from whatever attachment can rob us of our deliverance. Jesus has made all things ready for our deliverance. Therefore, we must do our part by living in obedience to God and separating ourselves totally from the world.
