When we are asked for the names of one of our Filipino heroes, which of them can you answer?

Perhaps we will answer Dr. Jose Rizal, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Lapu-lapu, Diego Silang and even General Antonio Luna. Maybe among the ones mentioned in one there are your answers.

The Philippines does not have an official list of heroes. There are others who submit the final list of heroes but this is not passed by the legislature to avoid debates and complications regarding past controversies about heroes.

Most of the heroes are men and only a few and well-known women have been part of the history of Philippine Independence.

Here in this article you will read and find out about the five brave female heroes of the Philippines who deserve to be remembered. These women do not just represent the simple woman. Do not forget them and their achievements for the next time someone asks you, you are ready to answer.

1. Gabriela Silang (1731-1763 )

Gabriela Silang was perhaps the best of Filipino female hero, but he was always just mentioned along with her husband Diego. Because their achievements are written as one, most people forget that it has its own contribution as the "First woman to lead a group of revolutionaries".

Gabriela was a brave IlocaƱa warrior who succeeded her husband as commander of the army after his assassination in 1763 .

He led its fight against the Spaniards in their province of Ilocos. They attacked the Spanish soldiers who introduced the group to them.

In its last battle with Vigan, it led two thousand (2,000) Filipino soldiers against the Spanish army with six thousand (6,000) soldiers.

Because they did not succeed, they were caught and hanged, Gabriela Silang is still recognized for her bravery for Philippine independence.

2. Tandang Sora (1812-1919 )

Tandang Sora's real name is Melchora Aquino who is known as the "Mother of the Revolution". A farmer mother left behind by her late husband as well as her six children.

He was called Tandang Sora because of his treatment of Andres Bonifacio and the Katipuneros in 1896 . His courage was recognized after he was caught by the Spaniards to determine the whereabouts of other Filipino rebels but he refused to answer.

3. Teresa Magbanua (1868-1947 )

A Teacher and ex-wife of the rich who owned large tracts of land. At that time he improved his riding and aiming with a gun in their vast land.

When he learned that his brothers had joined the army, he also forced his uncle, General Perfecto Poblador, to join the Katipunan of the women in their area. The General agreed, who appointed Teresa Magbanua as the first woman to lead the revolutionary in the Visayas.

It fought until the Japanese came to the Philippines to take over.

4. Josefa Llanes Escoda (1898-1945 )

One of the two women who posted the picture on Philippine currency paper. One woman is Melchora Aquino or Tandang Sora.

The eldest of seven siblings and helps his mother take care of the siblings since their father died in 1918 , while he was studying education at the University of the Philippines.

When the second world war broke out, his help and treatment of those affected by the war was the reason for his arrest, execution and execution.

5. Magdalena Leones (1921-2012 )

One of the lesser known heroes in World War 2 even though she was the only Asian woman to be awarded a Silver Star in World War 2 by the United States.

He will be born in the mountains of Kalinga and the son of a missionary.

Due to his refusal to surrender after the fall of Bataan, he was imprisoned for five months. While in jail, he trained himself to speak Japanese.

He became the "Special Agent" of Kernel Russel Volckman of the United States. And he did this as an opportunity to get important information in the afternoons. Because of this, he was called "The Lioness of Filipino Guerilla Agents".

Magdalena Leones just passed away in 2015 .
