Dakota Mayi Johnson is an American actress and model who was born on October 4, 1989. She the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. Her first appearance in the film was at age ten with a minor role in Crazy in Alabama (1999) which is a dark comedy starring her mother.

Although Johnson was discouraged to pursue acting when she graduated from high school, she still decided to begin auditioning for roles in Los Angeles.

In 2010, she was cast in a minor part in the film The Social Network. From then on, she acquired herself supporting roles in the films, 21 Jump Street, Goats, and the romantic comedy The Five-Year Engagement all in 2012.

However, Johnson got her breakthrough when she had her first starring role as Anastacia Steele in the Fifty Shades film series (2015-2018). With her outstanding performance in the series, she received a BAFTA Rising Star Award nomination in 2016.

After Fifty Shades, Johnson appeared in a biographical crime film Black Mass (2015), a drama film directed by Luca Guadagnino A Bigger Splash (2015), and the romantic comedy film How To Be Single (2016). In 2018, she reunited with Guadagnino and portrayed the lead role in Suspiria, a supernatural horror film that is based on the 1977 film by Dario Argento.

Johnson came from a family of actors. In fact, her father was shooting the film The Hot Spot in Texas when she was born. Her grandparents are former child actors Peter Griffith and Tippi Hedren. Her former stepfather is also a Spanish actor Antonio Banderas. She has a paternal half-sibling Jesse Johnson which is also an actor.

She spent her childhood in various locations on film sets. However, at an early age, she was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She transferred from one school to another, seven times.

She found herself an interest in modeling after a photoshoot at 12. So then, she earned income in modeling while schooling. She also suffered from depression at 14 and went to rehabilitation. She became interested in acting after her parents but she was discouraged to pursue it after she graduated from high school.

In 2006, Johnson signed with IMG Models. Modeling has not been her first choice but she also established her name in MANGO brand's jeans line in 2009. After her high school graduation, she took acting classes with teacher Tom Todoroff until 2008. After 2 years, she had her minor role as Amelia Ritter in the Oscar-nominated hit film The Social Network (2010).

From then on, she had acquired several supporting roles in many films and finally had her lead role in the film series Fifty Shades (2015-2018). That was her major breakthrough.

Wounds (2019)
