There are so many fake online businesses and investment platforms these days which are designed to pay the early birds and then crash after a while with the admins nowhere to be found. To enjoy a relatively safe and profitable investment, These are my foolproof investment credibility assessment criteria;
1) THEY MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE REGULATORY BODY IN THE COUNTRY OF OPERATION.
In Nigeria, the regulatory body for all businesses is the corporate affairs commission or C.A.C .
All legal corporate entities(public or private limited companies) are registered under a unique name and given a unique number code which has a prefix RC(for corporate entities) or BN(for sole proprietorship businesses). for example, RC1122334 or BN1234556. To verify the validity of any company with the CAC, log on to the official C.A.C publicsearch website and enter the name of the company to find their unique registration code. https://publicsearch.cac.gov.ng/ComSearch/index.php
NOTE: the only systems that are excluded from this criteria are decentralised systems based on a smart contract (digital contracts written in codes that cannot be altered, changed, hacked or stopped and require no admins to function)
2) THEY MUST BE A TAX PAYING COMPANY
A company's tax records say alot about the company. A company that fails to pay taxes can be closed down by the revenue collection bodies in a country. So you could lose your investments in a company that fails to pay taxes or is not registered with the revenue service bodies.
In Nigeria, the Federal Inland Revenue services(F.I.R.S) is in charge of all tax records of every legally registered company or business and gives each registered business a unique Tax Identification Number (TIN) which you can also verify this number from their official site below.
https://apps.firs.gov.ng/tinverification/
NOTE: if you do not know their TIN number, you could also change the criteria to require the RC number from Corporate Affairs Commission(which you got from step 1)
You can verify that the company you wish to invest in is a tax paying company registered with the F.I.R.S.
3) THEY *MUST* HAVE REPUTABLE COMPANIES AS PARTNERS
Criteria1 and 2 is usually enough but you get extra investment security if this criterion is met. If you do not know the company, find out whether they have reputable partners that you know and can trust.
4) THEY MAY HAVE GOOD HISTORY OR BACKGROUND
It never hurts to check the history of the company you want to invest in. Check how long they've been in operation and how far they've come. This should be your final check before assessing the opportunity or products(services too) the company offers and then deciding whether it is a worthy investment.
