Philippines (Update 1, 6:06 p.m.) - The number of infected coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has increased nationally as pandemics continue to worsen worldwide.

In the latest Department of Health statistics, Thursday, it had reached 33,069 - a further 778 compared to Wednesday's data.

The new numbers added are the result of 415 fresh cases and 363 late cases distributed to patients in the last three days and four days and above.

"We have 415 fresh cases added to our list, of which 250 are from the National Capital Region, 72 are from Region 7 and 93 are from different regions of our country," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario said Vergeire.

Here is the case breakdown of 22,436 active COVID-19 cases in the country according to DOH data released recently:

  • 752 asymptomatic

  • (3.4%) 21,543 mild

  • (96%) 117 severe

  • (0.5%) 24 critical

  • (0.1% 1,212 were killed by the virus after adding eight today.

Based on the data and graphs released by the DOH, the death toll of the virus has continued to decline as the government responds. COVID-19 deaths in the Philippines are likely to peak (before the end of March 2020) at about 40, now declining to less than ten.

Those who recovered, however, kicked in at 8,910 after accumulating 255 additional recoveries. National Task Force against COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon recently said that the government has achieved its goal of 50,000 daily.

However, he clarified that just 16,000 tests are the standard tests performed in the country on a daily basis, just one-third (one third) of the projected capacity.

About 9.12 million people have been infected with the disease worldwide since it spread from Wuhan, China. Of that, 473,797 lives are being reduced, says the World Health Organization (WHO).
