There is probably no person in the world who has not felt a headache, and the reasons may be different.

One of the main culprits of headaches lately is a sedentary lifestyle, ie office work that requires infrequently getting out of a stuffy space, looking at the computer screen every day, as well as physical activities. A very severe headache is called a migraine, and it comes with a number of its specific symptoms. It can take up to three days to completely disable this person to perform daily duties, and it is believed that, among other things, it is caused by certain circulatory disorders in the brain.

Why does a headache occur and how to treat it?

Headache appears as a symptom. It can vary in intensity from mild to severe pain as well as in duration from short-term, acute to long-term, chronic pain. It can manifest in different areas of the head, from the pain that appears behind the eyes to the one we feel on the back of the head, and it can simply make our whole head better. Headaches occur due to various causes, such as stress and dehydration, sinusitis and flu and infection, the aforementioned eye strain due to computer viewing or because people need eyeglasses, and the cause can be external influences, such as unventilated or smoky space.

Headaches can be prevented with both a healthy diet and hydration throughout the day, which includes a minimum of six glasses of water a day. When you’re in the office, especially one you’re sharing with multiple people, often ventilate it during business hours as well.

A healthy diet and regular hydration, prepared daily from a minimum of 6 glasses of water are one of the ways of preventive action against headaches. Migraines, ie very severe headaches, affect the female population in 75% of cases. One of the reasons for this is the hormonal changes that occur due to menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. This pulsating pain "attacks" one part of the head and many with the appearance of migraine feel dizzy, nauseous, become extremely sensitive to light, loud sounds, smells and sometimes touch.

Migraines can occur, as can headaches, for a variety of reasons. For example, in some people it may occur due to exposure to strong light, due to changes in weather, noise, lack of sleep, and even after consuming certain foods, such as cheese, chocolate and wine.

With migraines, you can try to help yourself with acupressure, by pressing your thumb between your eyebrows for 7-10 seconds.

How to beat headaches and migraines?

- Pay attention to your diet - it is important to eat healthy

- Make sure you are hydrated enough during the day

- Pay attention to the air quality in the room

- Reduce the risk of stress

- When a headache or migraine occurs, try to get some sleep

- Try to get some exercise to increase blood flow

- In order for the pain not to increase, but at the first symptoms of pain you can try paracetamol which will relieve headaches of mild to moderate intensity.

I also set out to look for some tips on the internet that concerned natural ways to solve a headache. I want to share with you what I learned even though I haven’t tried everything from the list. I hope you find it useful.

1. Use a cold compress

This could be the first and simplest thing you can do to relieve some of the pain caused by a headache. Place a soft and cool towel over your forehead. It will help the blood vessels to constrict. Refresh it every now and then with cold water.

If you prefer a longer lasting wrap, put a wet towel in a plastic bag and in the freezer for 30 minutes, then use it. If you have ice or a bag of frozen vegetables in the freezer, wrap them in a towel and use.

2. Soak your feet in warm water

This is unexpected, but a warm water bath in which you will put your feet seems to help your head feel better as it reduces the pressure on the blood vessels in your head. If you add a little mustard powder to the water it is even more effective for a headache if it is really strong.

3. Drink ginger tea

Make yourself a ginger tea (put 3 slices of fresh ginger root in 2 cups of boiling water). Inhale a couple of teas and sip slowly.

This will reduce the inflammation through the same time as an aspirin would. On top of all that, ginger also puts an end to nausea!

4. Drink fresh lemon juice

Another natural beverage that is really one of the best remedies for headaches (everyone will say so) is a simple fresh lemon juice or mixed with chamomile tea. This reduces the intensity of the pain. Drink three to four cups a day for the good of your sore head.

5. Eat some almonds

Did you know that these nuts contain something called salicin which is used in commercially popular painkillers? Why take a pill when you could eat a handful of almonds? A natural remedy and a much healthier alternative.

6. Relieve headaches with essential oils

Peppermint, eucalyptus, sandalwood, basil and especially lavender oil (I tried this and it works great!) Have a wonderful soothing effect for a painful headache. Massage the forehead, neck and upper back areas with one of these oils. Take a deep breath of the scent of these oils, preferably while sitting comfortably in a dark and quiet room. This will ease the discomfort and calm your mind. Use essential oils also use a warm bath or for inhalation.

7. Hold the pencil between your teeth

But don't bite her! The pen will activate your “smile muscles,” and the smile will relax your jaw that is attached to your temple. As bizarre as it may sound, it actually works, but only for tension related to headaches, but not for migraines and sinus headaches, keep that in mind.

8. Tie a scarf around your forehead

Tighten something around your forehead, such as a scarf, tie or scarf - very tightly, until you feel pressure. This reduces blood flow to the scalp and reduces pain caused by swollen blood vessels. It is very easy to do this even when you are not at home.

9. Light massage

Massaging the scalp, earlobes and neck improves circulation, relieves tension and distracts you from pain. The basic massage is easy to do, just lightly press your temples and other indentations like the nape of the neck and massage them in slow circular motions, giving them firm and good pressure. Better yet, let your loved ones massage your head, neck and back, it’s even more effective.

Also, massaging the bridge of the nose can be very helpful for sinus headaches and migraines. You can also try massaging acupressure points on your hands, pressing firmly (3 to 5 minutes on the area between your thumb and forefinger).

10. Red hot pepper (hot pepper)

It is an endorphin stimulant that treats pain and inflammation. You will need to dilute half a teaspoon of red hot pepper powder in a little warm water and apply it with a damp cotton ball to the inside of each nostril. You will feel a burning sensation, but that means it works and your pain will soon subside.

We hope these non-pharmaceutical ways will help you solve your severe headache.
