English isn't a basis of knowledge

English as we all know is our global language. It is a language used as means of communication not a basis of knowledge. It is not a measure of intellegence and shouldn't be use as a measure of our identity.

People shouldn't judge someone's knowledge or intellegence by their english speaking skillls. If that's the case, so many in this world are dumb! Does it make sense? Do you want to be called dumb because of your poor english speaking skills?

People who made english as their criterion to judge one's intellegence, education and even financial status are the ones who are dumb!

Do you know why majority of Chinese don't speak well in english? I onced asked my chinese friend that question. He says that, English is not their native language and they are taught Chinese. If they don't need to study abroad or requirement for work, they don't need to be that good in english.

As a matter of fact, English is a compulsory course in China and here in Hong Kong. But don't downgrade them, nowadays, many kids here are very good in speaking english. As for adults, they are business-minded, so they don't really care about learning english well. That's because they use their brain in upgrading their financial status rather than trying hard to be that good at a language which isn't necessary for their living. Aside from China, countries such as Japan, Korea, Middle East, Russia, doesn't really care about improving their english speaking skills, unless they need to. So why bother their bad english skills if they themselves doesn't care at all?

Indians on the other side are really good in English. No doubt, I admire them of that. I also like their eyes, their nose, I wish I have those traits (just kidding, I love myself πŸ˜…). We all know that the language of India is Hindi. But why are they good in english even if it's not their native language?

India is a country where the people are of different religions and cultures live together and speak different languages. It's the reason why India is called "Unity in Diversity."

When it comes to english language, India always ahead of other Asian countries. India can really blow your mind in a lot of ways.
They are diverse as well as their languages. English is their lingua franca. It is a language spoken in every Indian state which unites all India. Even their constitution and law are written in English.

Meanwhile, my beloved country, Philippines, also use English in many aspects. Although many aren't fluent in speaking english, but at least we understood the language. So why do we know english? It's because of american influence on our education system. Signages, constitution and laws are all written in english, even media is using same language.

However, filipinos are still being criticized, underestimated, downgraded. But don't dare criticize Philippines or Filipino in the internet. No one can critize without receiving some sort of backlash from rabid patriots.

Going back to the main topic. Every country has it's own mother language used. Speaking english fluently will not get in the way of civilization.

It always happens when non-english speaker go to country where english is their lingua franca, they are usually being criticized and humiliated. But when an english speaker go to a country where english isn't their language, they are being respected and treated well.

So when you heard, "Cook yourself la", "eat the house", "kill the TV", etc.. don't laugh. Just use your mind to translate it. It's just a matter of understanding. Anyway, we already have translators which we can use to understand foreign languages.

Instead of judging one's intellegence by english speaking skills, why don't you open yourself up to different cultures and languages? For sure it will make you a better person.

if a certain nation wants to be its language as a common tongue above other nations, this nation must have a long list of REPUTATION. Take for instance the USA who already "invaded" the media community. You can see them every corner of this very earth as we trace back to history its Achievements.

Because USA is powerful country since then, and english is mostly wide used language, that's why it invaded the media community. Even in our country, all are written in english

Low lying nations can't do nothing in terms of US influence in our life. Guess, our future generations must learn to adopt English as the universal language unless others supreme nations will eradicate US in the far future.

Exactly, but now i guess, china is a big threat to them coz it is already as powerful as USA. These two countries are a great rivals. Yes English is important that's why it's one of the major subjects in all school. But it shouldn't be the basis of knowledge. Everyone are smart in their own mother tongue

Yes , you are right , none can be judged as intelligent or talent by knowing a language. That thinking is bullshit. Language is a way of communication . English is excepted by all . So it is a way of communication all over the world. But how much a person is intelligent or talent, none can judge that on the basis of knowing any language. It's disappointing.

Yeah it is our international language, from that phrase itself it says "a language". But many use that as a criteria to know one's knowledge. I they heard someone speaking broken english, they would think they don't have good education whatsoever... seems that they a person through english speaking skills

Honestly, I'm quite guilty about judging people based on their ability to speak english (though I have grammar lapses as well) But everything changed when I met this Latino friend, he is very smart and funny at the same time and despite of the language barrier we became so close that sometimes he seems like my human diary. But he doesn't speak english too well, we only communicate through chats because he's using google translate for us to understand each other. His english is broken and it's like how a 5 year old non native english speaker speaks, but he's trying his best to learn the language and I appreciate all his efforts. Now I feel bad about laughing at people who doesn't speak english too well before (But I learned my lesson now ☺️)

Hehe pardon me for this long comment πŸ˜… But thank you so much for encouraging others through this awesome article.

No worries for the long comment. See you agree with me as well... english speaking skills isn't important, as long as you understand each other through other ways, that's the thing that matters..
