Football fans in the world are known to be quite fanatical about the clubs they support, for them football is a line between life and death. They don't care, they are willing to follow where their favorite team competes and don't hesitate to become anarchists when their support team loses.

Talking about England is difficult to separate from its football culture. Football is England. England is football. The anecdote that was so loud was echoed by British fanatics who were believed to be the first country to play football on this earth. There are various things that drive this fact quoted from Bloomsbury International, namely:

  • Football was first played in England in the Middle Ages and there is written evidence that the game was played as early as 1170

  • The Football Association (FA), was first founded in England in 1863 and in the same year, the modern rules of football were created.

  • World's first football club founded in England (Sheffield F.C in 1857)

  • The first national competition (FA Cup) started in England in 1871.

  • England formed the first football team and the first international football match was played in England (England vs Scotland 1872)

  • The first national football league started in England in 1888.

  • Currently, there are over 40,000 registered football clubs in England-the most of any country in the world (Brazil is second with 29,000 clubs).

  • The English Premier League is one of the most popular leagues in the world.

Football is hard, football is business and it's a business that brings millions of pounds into it. Furthermore, football is also a matter of pride and prestige. Just look at the owners of clubs in the English Premier League (EPL), which is one of the most prestigious leagues in the world. The owner does not hesitate to spend fantastic amounts of money to make his club full of star players so that it increases the prestige of the club and its owners.

For example, Manchester City is owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a billionaire from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Previously, not too many knew him, his name stuck when he bought the club Manchester City and poured money to overhaul the club by recruiting world-class players and famous coaches.

The competition in the league is very tight, players and club coaches are always in the media spotlight. Switching top coaches can happen in a matter of months, not to mention the burden on players when their performance is not optimal. Scorns and compliments can come from the same person in a matter of seconds.

Hooligans may be the most well-known stereotypical term among football fans in the world, unfortunately the term is known for its negative behavior. Hooligan actually describes a term that leads to anarchic, destructive behavior, and pseudo-fanaticism. Due to various incidents that often occur between supporters of English football, the term Hooligan is labeled as being attached to the behavior of its supporters who commit vandalism, intimidate opponents, and anarchy. Hooligans often make trouble with other supporters and often have to deal with the police because of their actions. This Hooligan phenomenon is only a glimpse of the story of football culture in England which is difficult to separate from the story.

Even the 2005 film Green Street Hooligan became the starting point for my introduction to the term Hooligan and stories about football in England. Green Street Hooligans became a hard portrait of football fans in England in supporting each other their football team. What needs to be underlined is that violence by football fanatics does not only occur in England, in almost all parts of the world there is violence involving many hardline fans.

I'm sure, if asked to name 5 football clubs in the English Premier League (EPL) or Premier League clubs, I'm sure you will pronounce them fluently. Starting from teams that are in the top 5 to those who are struggling to get out of the abyss of relegation in the league standings.

Various cities in England can be easily found football clubs, even in the same city there are several clubs that make it their headquarters. London is the city in England with the most football clubs that often compete in the English Premier League, namely the top three clubs, namely Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal.

The city of Manchester has two giant clubs that have won the English Premier League (EPL), namely Manchester United and Manchester City. But don't forget there is still Liverpool, this football club with the slogan "You'll Never Walk Alone" also has loyal fans who always support their team when they are not in good form.

Football clubs are also an attraction for club fans from other countries to visit the city where the club is located. By visiting his dream club, he feels as a complete fan of the club. By knowing English football, you can easily tell the difference between Great Britain, England, and the United Kingdom.
