He is reported to have died of a heart attack.

He is said to have suffered a heart attack at his residence in Buenos Aires.

The former Argentine soccer midfielder and manager Maradona underwent successful brain surgery earlier this month due to a blood clot in his brain.

He was told he would start treatment for his alcohol dependence.

Career:

Under the captaincy of one of the best footballers of all time, Argentina won the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

In the quarter-final against England, he scored his famous 'Goal with Hand', which became known as the legendary 'Hand of God'.

The Argentine Football Association "deeply regrets the star's death" in a statement on social media. The statement added: "Your seat will be in our hearts forever.

Maradona is considered one of the biggest stars in world football in the last 50 years.

He has also played for clubs such as Barcelona and Napoli.

He scored 34 goals in 91 appearances for Argentina. He played for Argentina in four World Cups.

When Argentina reached the final in 1990, Maradona led the team. West Germany lost them in that game in Italy. Then in 1994 he went to America again to captain the Argentine team. But he had to return to Argentina after failing an illegal drug test.

Towards the end of his life, Maradona had problems with cocaine addiction and was banned for 15 months in 1991 after his body was found to contain drugs.

He retired from professional football in 1996 on his 36th birthday.
