US President Donald Trump has said the coronavirus outbreak is the deadliest of all attacks on the United States. He has repeatedly blamed China for the outbreak.
In a regular address to reporters at the White House, President Trump expressed serious concern about the effects of the coronavirus.
Continuous attacks on China
"It should have been stopped at the beginning of the virus in China, but it didn't," he said.
The BBC's Barbara Platt-Asher says Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo has reiterated his "sharp criticism" of China. But the United States has so far offered no evidence. China has denied the allegations.
He accused the United States of failing to take effective action against the virus and said it was trying to divert people's attention.
The United States has so far lost 73,000 lives and infected 1.2 million people. The United States is the most affected country in the world.
He should do all that is necessary to protect Americans because that is his job. Blaming China will not solve the problem.
