Why is there a writers strike going on right now?

In today's article, I wanted to cover a certain event that is going on within the writing industry. That is the recent writers strike that has affected every industry concerning writers from screenwriting in Hollywood to even simple social media and blog managers. I'm sure many of you have heard of the strike by now and probably have heard of many reasons for the strike. I'm going to however try to give you the full picture of the strikes and why they're happening. So with that being said let's get into today's article.

The purpose of the strike

The strike began on May 2, 2023, at approximately 12:01 a.m. PST (Pacific Standard Time). The strike originally started with just the Writers Guild of America striking against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for several reasons. The main points were that Writers didn't want Chat GPT to replace the writer's role and wanted some regulations surrounding Chat GPT in the filming industry. They are also protesting for more pay because residuals which is how many get paid in the film industry are being cut for writers while producers see no cuts in pay. However, the strike has started to grow out of the film industry and is starting to affect the writing industry as a whole. With many companies social media accounts and blog writers/managers starting to protest. This has led to the biggest writer strike in almost two decades with the last major strike being the 07-08 writers strike.

My thoughts on the strike?

Now before we end the article I just wanted to state what my thoughts are on the strike. So I want to state that I support the writers in their protest to protect their job and the creativity of their job. I understand that writers are very important in the filming industry they make and write the great stories we enjoy on the big screen. However, I don't agree with their stance on other writers who decide not to protest. The writers guild said they promise to ban those from entry within the guild if they continue to work with companies they are protesting. While I understand why they would feel this way they should also know that in this economy especially as a writer any job helps especially if you're just starting or are just graduating college. With the writing industry also starting to get more competitive nowadays many new fresh writers don't have the means or time to protest without risking their livelihood. But to summarize how I feel about the strike I support it but I think they shouldn't shame other writers, especially the young and new writers.

Artificial Intelligence will soon replace other jobs. That would be sad for those individuals who will loose their jobs.
