The eleventh of February is the youth day in Cameroon, this is usually a great day for all schools.preparation for youth day usually starts as pupils come back from thier Christmas break. Among other high lights on this day are inter school competitions in activities such as sports ,drama choral signing and traditional dances.the is also a prize or shield for the best school in marching. This is Gadget he is a class six pupil in Government school muea.He does not like sports, neither does he play football much. This is because he is too shy.He plays privately with his friends but really hates public games expect as a spectator .He can not face a cheering crowd .He is therefore not very concerned with the lots of preparations for the youth day. What he likes best is the marching. Last year marching practice was done in Gadgets during the last week to the youth day. It was done for one hour Every morning .Gadget really enjoyed it.All the children lined up .this time not according to class but according to height and also the band played ,the marched round the field several times ,the teachers were well spread out along the line of the children, which they usually march in four columns. Each teacher was responsible for a group . The head teacher or his assistant stood at the centre of the field ,facing the children and from there shouted out his orders . By the left mark time ,left right left right . Each time the marching was haphazard the headmaster stopped the school and shouted out corrections. Swing yours from your shoulders not your elbows and always look left and right to see if you are in line with the rest .this went on for one hour .And pupils were ordered to go back to class. Gadget is looking forward to enjoying these practices this year again....
