The White's Tradition in Africa.
Good morning beautiful people of this amazing community "just write" today is another beautiful day drawing close to Christmas and I wish you all a merry Christmas week in good health. In my article today, I will be talking about the White's Tradition, how the white's tradition is welcomed and celebrated in Africa.
Tradition goes with culture. Talking about Tradition, culture is most certainly pronounced. Therefore, culture and tradition goes together and I believe we all know what they mean. In the same way, "norms" is likewise pronounced.
I am from Nigeria in west Africa. We have our culture and tradition and still, we welcome the White's Tradition for decades we lived with it and so far it has been amazing. Believe me to say that "as culture never die, so the white's tradition will never die in Africa as a whole too"
The origin of the white's tradition is traced to the time of colonisation. Before our colonisation, Africa has countless number of beliefs, culture and tradition. Their way of life is purely natural. For instance,
Their clothing which is made of fur
Their houses, made of mud
Farming and hunting material made of woods
Rainfall, stream and rivers, lakes as sources of water.
Idol worshipping.
Root and herbs as medicine..etc
With these way if life, they lived in understanding, in good health and lasted for hundreds of years. They spent most of their time working in their farm as they measure their wealth based on how many farm land they own and the amount of crops harvested in their farm.
Life was a hard because they need to till the land with their wooden tools, store water with clay pots. Some trek a long distance to get water, most especially in dry season and on bare foot. No hospital/clinic, they rely on fresh vegetables for good nutrition.
Colonisation and the introduction of White's Tradition contribute immensely on the development of African society. Colonisation brought education, church, wedding, women rights and lots more.
Present Nigeria live in two-way tradition; partly White's and partly African tradition. This is so obvious and can be seen in their marriage culture and tradition. For instance, the Igbos.
Marriage in Igbo land of Nigeria is said to be completed when the couple are through with the White's wedding and their original traditional marriage. In some part of this tribe, white wedding is done before the traditional marriage. Some even considered only the white marriage important. They plan and organize a very lucrative and luxurious wedding which in most cases derives the bride crazy (joy) and this is due to the requirement of christianity which was introduced by colonisation. What a beautiful culture.
There are many churches in Nigeria now and her population still increasing.
Another beautiful culture of the White is education. In the olden days before colonialism, there's no school. Africans uses proverbs to sharpen their thinking and awaken their wisdom. Adages and African proverbs include:
โAย birdย that flies off the Earth and lands on an anthill is still on the ground.โ
"When two elephants fight, the ground gets hurt"
"All monkeys can't hang on the same branch"
"He who digs grace for his enemy might as well be digging one for himself".
These proverbs and wise sayings and more are what is expected of a true son of his father to know in a society to be seen as educated in Africa's olden way.
Further more, it is always believed that Africa is an industrious nation, but colonisation brought more exploration and development of skills already possessed by Africans. Some part of Africa is known for blacksmithing, the White's developed this skill in a more advanced way. So is gold mining, copper mining and a whole lot of minerals both top and beneath the earth.
One of the most important White's culture practiced in Africa today is education. Through education, it was made known that gender descrimination is unfair and not allowing women participate in different cultural practices was put in check. Today in Africa, we have female graduates, female doctors and professors, even though in my country there are certain post they are not allowed to hold.
The introduction of the White's culture by colonialism is seen in our everyday life. In our home, offices, churches... everything. Developed countries of Africa are seen with modernization of the White's culture and these include; tarred roads, cars, smartphones, computer and many more.
Culture will last forever, the White's culture will still remain in Africa for it is the White's culture that defines the modern Africa and the world at large.
