South Asia is an ancient and diverse city in the world. SAARC was established on 6 December 1985 as a platform for regional cooperation to strengthen and accelerate the development of relations between the countries of South Asia. Since its inception, SAARC has been working for the development of member countries. But due to regional politics and border issues, SAARC has not been able to achieve its goals and objectives. However, SAARC needs to play a more effective role in resolving all disputes and overcoming conflicts and politics and developing member countries. Only then will the goals and objectives of SAARC be realized.

On 21 April 1971, a meeting of the Foreign Secretaries of 6 countries was held in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives. The Colombo meeting agreed to form a regional cooperation body and the areas of cooperation were documented. The Summit of Heads of State and Government of 6 countries was held on 6 and 7 December 1975 in Dhaka. The SAARC Charter was signed on December 6, 1985. This charter sets out 6 goals. This is how SAARC was born. Abul Ahsan of Bangladesh was appointed the first Secretary General of SAARC and the Secretariat was established in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
