History of Cricket
Cricket originated in England. It is mentioned in a book about cricket played during the reign of King Edward I in the 13th century. At that time there was a game called 'Stu' ball in England. From there, cricket became popular in England in the later eighteenth century. Then the international competition started with the first Test match between England and Australia on 15-16 March. Currently, 10 countries including England, Australia, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh are elite Test playing cricket nations. The first World Cup cricket match was played in 1985. One Day International cricket was played on 5 January 1971. The latest version of cricket, T20 cricket, started its journey in 2006.
Rules of the game
Cricket requires a large field. There is a pitch of 22 yards in the middle of the field. There are three stumps at each end of the pitch. Its height from the ground is 26/28 inches. Above the stump, two pieces of hard wood, 4 inches long, are loosened and pressed, which we call a bell. On both sides of the wicket, a straight line is cut 4 feet in a line on both sides, which is called ‘bowling crease’. In this game there are 11 players in each team. The game of bat and ball between the two teams is held on an oval field. Umpires are appointed to manage the game. There are two umpires on the field and one TV umpire off the field. In this game, the aim of the batting side is to collect runs by hitting the ball by evading the opponent's fielding boundary. And the goal of the bowling side is to get the opponent's player out.
In cricket, the maximum width of the bat is 4.5 inches and the maximum length of the bat is 36 inches. The ball used in cricket has a circumference of 250 cm and weighs about 160 grams. Two innings of 50 overs are scheduled for one-day internationals. Tests, on the other hand, are scheduled to last at least 30 hours in five days or four innings. 20 overs have been fixed for the short-lived T20 game. You have to bowl six times in each over. Cricket is a game of ten wickets. A batsman can be out in ten ways. Of these, five types of outs are commonly seen - bold, cut, lbw, stamp, run out, and the other five are hit wicket, timed out, hit the ball twice, obstructing the field and handled the ball. The fielding position of the bowling side during the game is bowler, wicket keeper, slip, gully, thirdman, cover, silly mid off, silly mid on, square lag and long leg. This is how cricket is played, and the team that scores the most runs wins.
