AIDS and Asia

As of 2003, there were 5.6 million people living with HIV in South and Southwest Asia. In the same region, an estimated 600,000 people were infected with HIV in 2000. Of these, 450,000 were males and 25,000,000 were females. Currently, 72 lakh people are infected with HIV in the region. Of which 1 million adults and children were newly infected in 2002. The current situation in Asia is very deplorable in all respects.

AIDS and Bangladesh Perspective

Bangladesh is a geographical South Asian country. Its neighboring countries India, Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan, HIV infection rate is gradually increasing. Due to the contact of these countries with Bangladesh, the spread of AIDS is also happening in Bangladesh. Sylhet and Chittagong, two border districts of Bangladesh, have the highest AIDS rate. Besides, this rate is also noticeable in the border districts of Jessore and Rajshahi. This growing situation is as threatening for Bangladesh as it is for Thailand.

Sex workers are the most at risk of contracting HIV. Injecting drug users are also at serious risk in this country.

Some of the people at risk of contracting AIDS in Bangladesh are-

1. Adolescents and young people who use drugs.

2. Young women and girls, most of whom are deprived of education and awareness activities.

3. Floating people who have left their families and society, often have sex with sex workers due to loneliness.

4. Drug addicts are people who are forced into unprotected sex for money.

Symptoms of AIDS

The symptoms of AIDS are as follows -

* Occasional fever, headache and loss of vision.

* White screen inside the mouth, lips and tongue.

* Infinite weakness and decreased digestive energy.

* Decreased memory.

* Dry cough, sore throat, shortness of breath.

* Swelling of the glands, especially the throat, armpits and groin.

* Sweating at night, insomnia and weight loss.

* Rash on the back, face and neck.

Things to do to prevent AIDS

The role of different countries and international organizations in AIDS prevention activities is important.

Here are some things to do to prevent AIDS:

★First of all, obedience to religious rules. Maintaining the integrity of the marital relationship in particular.

★Second: Using safe methods to have sex. In addition, polygamy and prostitution should be stopped.

★Third, to check for HIV in the blood of the donor before donating blood.

★Fourth: Do not use other people's needles, syringes, blades, razors, razors etc.

★Fifth: Abstaining from pregnancy of AIDS infected mother.

★Sixthly, to refrain from using drugs and to conduct precautionary propaganda through all public, private, domestic and foreign campaigns.

Social Awareness Education Program for AIDS Prevention

Life-oriented and mass education activities need to be intensified for AIDS prevention. If there is awareness in the educated society, it is possible to make the whole society aware. But the conventional education system in our country cannot give life-oriented or practical education. Textbooks need to include AIDS awareness activities. One of the new horizons under the education program is LSE = Life Skill Education.

AIDS is a deadly disease. It is spreading very fast all over the world. No antidote has been discovered yet. Therefore, awareness raising activities should be carried out at a massive rate. If these awareness activities are not effective or there is no remedy, it will take the form of an epidemic and lead the world to destruction. Human existence will disappear. So everyone must come forward from their position to prevent AIDS.
