Farmers of Bangladesh
Such a farmer lives in every village of Bangladesh. As soon as the light of dawn broke, every farmer started running to the field with a plow on his shoulder. Burning in the sun, wet in the rain, he worked tirelessly to reap the harvest. This work of his continues from morning till evening. In this way, every farmer is producing food grains and other agricultural products for us.
The past condition of the farmer
We can understand the past condition of the farmer in Bangladesh only through history, folklore and proverbs. In the description of the famous traveler Ibn Battuta, there is a place for the farmers of Bangladesh. At one time the farmers of this country had paddy full of shells, cows full of barns, fish full of ponds. At the same time, the peasants wore loom sari and various ornaments.
Current status of farmers
In the past, Bangladesh had less population, more cultivable land, more fertile land, so the yield was higher. But at present there is no such situation in this country. Now the poor, uneducated, helpless farmer no longer gets a fair price for his suffering. However, the present peasants have come out of the stupidity and superstition of the Mandhata period. So he is constantly trying to develop himself.
Problems of Agriculture and Farmers
The agricultural sector of Bangladesh is plagued with various problems, the victims of which are the farmers of this country. They have to face many difficult challenges to overcome these problems and continue their agricultural work. The following are some of the major problems facing agriculture and farmers in Bangladesh.
Lack of capital
At present most of the farmers in the country are poor and as a result they often go to work and face capital crisis. As a result, they are suffering due to lack of capital at the right time.
Lack of training
There is no substitute for skilled farmers to increase yields in agriculture. Most of the farmers in our country are uneducated and unskilled. They don't even have proper training.
Lack of agricultural equipment
The farmers of this country are still using old machinery. They are lagging far behind due to lack of necessary modern equipment and scientific technology.
Inadequacy of irrigation system
In the dry season, farmers are not able to provide the required irrigation for Eri paddy cultivation. As a result the crop is damaged.
Natural Disasters
Every year many crops of our country are destroyed due to natural calamities and the farmers are affected.
Defective market
Due to poor market system of agricultural products in our country, farmers are deprived of fair prices.
Defects of conservation system
Due to inadequate storage facilities of surplus crops in our country, many crops are lost every year and farmers are facing losses.
Things to do for the development of the agricultural sector and farmers
The following steps need to be taken for the development of the agricultural sector and the condition of the farmers in Bangladesh. E.g.
- Farmers need to be educated and necessary training needs to be arranged.
- In order to cultivate in a scientific manner, modern equipments and pesticides have to be delivered to the farmers.
- Land needs to be arranged for landless farmers.
- Need to provide water and electricity required for irrigation work.
- Farmers should take measures to provide low interest loans.
- Defective issues need to be rectified in the market system.
- Modern technology should be used for proper storage of agricultural products.
Agriculture is playing an immense role in keeping the wheel of the economy of Bangladesh running while the condition of the farmers of this country is still fragile. It goes without saying that they do not have social status. This requires a change in the attitude of educated citizens. The educated people who sit in the city and decide the fate of the farmers must remember that the development of agriculture and farmers is the development of the country. Only timely steps taken for the development of agriculture and farmers can enrich the national economy. So this issue must be given importance.
