Thyroid

A gland is very important in our body; It looks like a butterfly with two loops on either side! The function of this thyroid gland is to produce a type of hormone called thyroxine which is called “Master of Metabolism” which means that this master gland thyroid controls all the reactions of food in our body!

This gland controls the pituitary and hypothalamus in our brain. From the hypothalamus to the pituitary, from the pituitary to the thyroid.

Differences in the production of this thyroxine hormone in the thyroid gland cause two diseases; It is better not to call them diseases but hormonal imbalances! Normal levels of thyroxine hormone production in adults range from 00.47 uIU / ml to 05.01 uIU / ml, which means that if a hormone below this level is produced from the thyroid gland, it is called hypo and if it is high, it is called hyperthyroidism!

When thyroxine production is low, the hypothyroidism has nothing to do but supply hormones from outside and therefore has to take hormone tablets for life; However, if the hormone production is less than the normal level mentioned above, then you should not lean towards the medicine. Instead, the normal level for taking the medicine is calculated from 00.47 uIU / ml to 10.00 uIU / ml instead of 05.01 uIU / ml. If the range is above 05.01 uIU / ml, do not start taking incense medicine, but in some cases seek the advice of multiple experts because remember- once you start taking the medicine, it should be done for life!

If the hormone is produced in excess of the normal range described above, i.e. hyperthyroidism, it can be completely cured by medication / radioactive iodine therapy / surgery, but it often comes back as hypothyroidism after recovering from hyperthyroidism!

Since thyroxine regulates metabolism, there are two effects of this hormone imbalance:

As the thyroid hormone is being produced less, as a result metabolism decreases, constipation occurs and weight gain occurs; Also in this case - there may be unnecessary fatigue or drowsiness, the cold may be unbearable, the softness of the voice may be reduced, the voice may become heavy and hoarse, there may be a tendency to forget or inattention, and in girls there is irregular menstruation and excessive bleeding during menstruation.

As more hormones are produced in the hyperthyroid, the result is increased metabolism, frequent bowel movements, and weight loss; In addition to this, there is a tendency to feel unnecessarily hot, insomnia, restlessness and menstrual cramps, infertility, abortion.

You can contact an endocrinologist for treatment.
