Perfume Impressions
"[The] fresh, calming and clean scent of the ocean is what I get when I wear it."
"I like that it has no unusual notes, but it's still very wearable."
"It's a very soft and subtle fragrance that makes me feel relaxed."
I usually get a whiff of perfume when I walk past the perfume aisle at my local drugstore. It's not a bad scent, but it's not a particularly good one either. The perfume is usually inoffensive, and it reminds me of sunscreen—something I could get used to wearing all day long, but that I wouldn't want to wear for very long.
But then there are times when a particular scent makes me think: "Yes! That is what I want!" It might be a scent that I've been attracted to for years and years (or maybe it's just something that I've never liked until now). Or maybe it's the first time in my life that I've had an idea of what kind of fragrance I would like. It could be anything — a particular flower or fruit, even an abstract concept like "freshness."
In any case, this specific type of encounter with perfumes happens only rarely — probably once every few years or so. But whenever it does happen, it feels like magic; it feels like we're talking about something important and meaningful. There's no way around it: When
Perfume is a very subjective thing. Some people hate it, while others love it. I myself love it, but I am not one of those people who can wear any perfume and smell good.
I have tried so many perfumes in my life, but I have never found one that I really liked and I would buy again. Now that I'm older and have tried many different types of perfumes, I can say that there are some perfumes that absolutely do not suit me at all. They smell strange on my skin or they smell like something else (for example, when someone wears an eau de toilette scent and then spritzes themselves with their favorite body splash).
I think one of the most important things when buying a new fragrance is to ask yourself if this perfume suits your body chemistry or not. You should also try to find out what type of person you are wearing this perfume for - whether it's for yourself or for someone else (like a boyfriend/girlfriend).
I've been wearing perfume for almost 20 years now. I used to be a sprayer, but now I only wear the real stuff.
I wear perfume because it has become a part of my identity and how I present myself to the world. Perfume is my way of saying that there's more to me than just my body and face.
The first time I ever smelled a perfume was at age 10 or 11. My mom had bought a bottle of Christian Dior's Miss Dior Cherie for me for Christmas and I was so excited about it that I tried it on as soon as she left the house. It was a floral scent with hints of vanilla and jasmine — very heady stuff for someone who didn't like smelling like flowers! But somehow it was perfect for me, so from that day forward it became one of my favorite scents.
