ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY AND VASCULAR DOPPLER
The Echocardiography and Vascular Doppler Service of the Favaloro Foundation is a Service recognized nationally and internationally for the care experience it has accumulated and the academic and teaching work carried out since 1992.
It has an exclusive area for outpatient studies and state-of-the-art equipment to address the entire spectrum of complexity of diseases of the Cardiovascular system.
The studies are carried out by university cardiologists with extensive experience in clinical cardiology, Echocardiography and Vascular Doppler. All of them, in addition to their care role, develop tasks in teaching and research.
 WHAT IS THE ECHOCARDIOGRAM?
The echocardiogram is an ultrasound technique that allows obtaining images in real time of the cardiac structures and in this way evaluating their dimensions and the function of the cardiac muscle. The addition of Color Doppler and Doppler techniques helps analyze heart valve function and blood flow disturbances within the heart and arteries and veins throughout the cardiovascular system. Ultrasound is a non-invasive and painless method for the patient, which can be used universally for pregnant patients, newborn children, adults and patients who have pacemakers. Being a safe study for the patient, it has the advantage of being able to be carried out as many times as necessary without any additional risk.
ULTRASOUND
The Favaloro Foundation has the most advanced technology, and in constant updating, for the diagnostic study of images through ultrasound. The quality control of classical techniques and the development of new diagnostic and treatment techniques are fundamental objectives of this center.
The Ultrasound Section of the Favaloro Foundation is a reference center for several of its studies, since it has one of the most important experiences.
The professional team is made up of a staff of imaging diagnostic specialists with extensive experience in this type of study.
 EQUIPMENT
The service has state-of-the-art ultrasound scanners and a portable ultrasound scanner, all of them with sector, linear and convex transducers together with black and white and color printers.
WHAT IS DETECTED THROUGH ULTRASOUND TECHNIQUES?
Doppler ultrasound of renal arteries
Renovascular hypertension is a potentially curable disorder by surgery or angioplasty. The Doppler of the renal arteries, a non-invasive and low-cost method, has become the method of choice for the diagnosis of this disease.
Abdominal Doppler studies and liver, kidney, intestinal and pancreatic transplantation
The abdominal Doppler study is today the initial diagnostic method for a rapid and accurate evaluation in the diagnosis of portal hypertension.
The Favaloro Foundation is a referral center for a large number of patients to evaluate the degree of their portal hypertension and the possibility of follow-up before a future liver transplant.
Doppler is the method of choice for monitoring liver, kidney, intestinal and pancreatic transplant patients.
Radio frequency technique
This technique is used for the ablation of primary or secondary liver tumors. It is based on the application of radiofrequency waves that generate a temperature increase in the tumor area, which when it exceeds 50ºC achieves cell necrosis by thermocoagulation. It can be applied percutaneously, laparoscopically or surgically with ultrasound guidance. In general, it is applied to tumors larger than 5 cm, which are not in the vicinity of the gallbladder or digestive structures, which can be damaged by heat. The evaluation of therapeutic efficacy is carried out one month after treatment by means of computed tomography and / or ultrasound.
Alcoholization technique
It is used for the ablation of primary or secondary liver tumors. It is based on the application of absolute alcohol, which generates cell necrosis in the tumor area. It is applied percutaneously with ultrasound guidance. In general it applies to tumors larger than 3 cm. Several alcoholizations are performed on the tumor in different assignments, unlike radiofrequency, which is performed in a single session. The evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy is carried out with ultrasound guidance and computed tomography.
 INVESTIGATION
One of the important research aspects in our center is the care in fine-tuning new technologies in order to adapt the best possible solution to each clinical problem;Â an example of this are studies for the evaluation of renal vascular hypertension by Doppler ultrasound and the diagnosis and treatment of liver tumors.
Lines of investigation:
Renal vascular hypertension
Diagnosis and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma
Transplant complications (kidney, pancreatic, liver)
Doppler ultrasound in portal hypertension
Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Bowel Transplantation
