The Laboratory has the essential equipment for the processing of samples and tissues, activities that are developed in the areas of Macro and Microscopy, Histotechnics, Cytotechnics, Immunohistochemistry and Immunofluorescence.
The Service receives samples from inpatients or outpatients of the Favaloro Foundation University Hospital (HUFF), and from patients from other centers in the country.
 STAFF OF SPECIALISTS
The HUFF Pathology Service has functioned uninterruptedly since the institution's creation in 1992, being integrated into healthcare, teaching and research activities. It is a reference center in cardiovascular, pulmonary, liver, gastroenterological and solid organ transplantation pathologies, receiving more than 17,000 studies per year, from the institution and patients from other centers throughout the country.
The professional staff is made up of specialists in Pathology, with general training and guidance in cardiovascular, pulmonary, kidney, liver, gastroenterological and oncological pathologies. The team has extensive experience in the study of the pathology of solid organ transplants: heart, lung, kidney, liver and intestine. In addition, gynecological and non-gynecological cytology samples are evaluated and in the HUFF, punctures are performed by fine needle aspiration of superficial and deep lesions with ultrasound and tomographic control, with the presence of the pathologist at the procedure site in order to ensure that the amount and quality of the material is adequate for accurate diagnosis, which results in an improvement in patient management.
Likewise, the campus participates in undergraduate teaching (Careers in Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Engineering in Medical Physics and Kinesiology at the Favaloro University) and postgraduate (Career of Specialists in Cardiology and Electrophysiology). And the Pathology Service is involved in the development of applied research projects in conjunction with other HUFF Services. The lines of research in which he has participated in recent years have been those of tissue regeneration, atheromatous plaque, myogenesis in normal and pathological heart and in acute human myocardial infarction, pathogenesis of cardiomyopathies and Chagas disease, and transplantation.
