INTERNAL MEDICINE

Internal Medicine is the medical specialty that is responsible for the comprehensive care of the health of the adult patient, with a spectrum that ranges from the seriously hospitalized patient to outpatient care. It is a trunk branch of Medicine that forms the spinal column within the structure of a University Hospital.

Historically, it has managed to differentiate itself from the rest of the specialties by means of a basic principle: "no clinical problem of the adult is alien to its responsibility and responsibility." This precept has allowed it to remain in force over time despite the growth of specialties and superspecialties.

The internist is a highly qualified professional, specially trained for the management and coordination of complex medical care. You must keep up to date, cultivating and developing your reasoning skills to solve new or complicated situations. He must be qualified for academic discussion with specialists from various branches, both clinical and surgical. His professional competence is not only limited to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, but also plays a leading role in the university teaching of Medicine and must be able to carry out research activities.

The main role of the Internal Medicine specialist is to become the GP for their patients. Correct medical decision-making requires, in addition to an adequate level of scientific training, a thorough knowledge of the human being, his social, cultural, economic and family situation. Without a humanistic basis, the highly specialized medical practice of the 21st century is clearly inadequate, can be excessively expensive and can sometimes even act to the detriment of the health of the sick human being. The care provided by various highly qualified specialists requires the humanizing and integrating presence of an internist. In this spirit, the Department of Internal Medicine of the Favaloro Foundation began its activities on February 1, 2008.
