The local names of the island are "Narikel jinjira" which means 'Coconut Island', and "Daruchini Dwip" which means "Cinnamon island". It's also called the daughter of sea(ST. Martin).It is the only coral island in Bangladesh. Now it is known as the most popular and attractive tourist spot for the foreigners.
St. Martin's Island is a small coral island in the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal in the far south of Bangladesh (only 36 sq km).
It is located about 9 km south of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district and 8 km west of the coast of Myanmar at the mouth of the Naf River. It is also locally known as Coconut Ginger because of its abundance of coconuts.
It is a well known name among the sea lovers of Bangladesh. The island is further enhanced by the famous writer Humayun Ahmed's full-length film Cinnamon Island.
