"I have done everything. I have loved, I have hated, I have built businesses, employed several people. Why then am I?"

Life is a journey. Every human is sure familiar with this statement. Indeed life is a journey. We are all passengers in whatever vehicle we are using to traverse this life. The hope therefore as passengers is to pray to get to our destination in one piece. This is evident in the way we live our lives generally; the food we eat, what we drink, the clothes we wear, the way we talk and the way we treat each other.

The life of Mr. John Stewart (not real names)

Mr. John struck a gold mine at a young age of 24. This was a time when his mates were struggling relentlessly to find their feet. These mates were having the support of their parents or guardians. Whereas in the case of Mr. John, he had no backing and started everything from scratch. He was a young millionaire even without seeing the four walls of a formal school. He was self-taught at home. He got into crude oil at an early stage and worked against the odds to get to a position of consistent cash flow from sourcing for buyers for refined crude and getting handsome commissions doing so.

Having seen that the cash flow from one single source of income might not come forever, he devised other means to make money. No other way other than strings of investments, he thought. These strings of investments should be diversified as well so as not to put all eggs in a basket. He diversified his investments interests into several sectors like; banking, real estate, agriculture, tech, and logistics.

The cash flow was massive. Now, at 61, married with 4 kids (2 of which are planning to emulate the footsteps of their father which in summary is the big word: INVESTMENT), Mr. John was living the life every sane human being would dream of. A life of material abundance. A life that people see you live and think you have everything at your beck and call. However, he was still not satisfied, he felt as though something is still missing, something that he couldn’t put his finger on. Each night before he retires to bed, he usually tries to search inwards to find this missing thing but all to no avail. He has been keeping to himself all these while. Eventually, he decided to open up to his wife. He called her into his room and tells her everything. I have done everything. I have loved, I have started a family, rendered help to the hopeless both personally and institutionally, I have built businesses, employed several people, why then am I still feeling empty? His wife tried all she could to explain to him that his ambitious nature was the cause of it.

"You are a very ambitious man who never rest on his laurels. This ambitiousness was what brought you thus far to being a rich man so it still has a hold on you" She said. Though, it sounded nice but still didn’t help matters at all.

This went on till Mr. John passed away at the age of 73. He passed on without resting the question: why am I still feeling empty? Mr. John was an older friend of my kid brother. May his soul continue to rest on.

This scenario is commonly faced by several people especially the rich and wealthy. This is so because the rich guy has abundance and is perceived by the society at large to have it all. Well, as we usually see, it’s not always the case. That’s why there have been reported cases of suicidal deaths and attempts by the affluent ones in the society owing to the fact that satisfaction in their lives is far from achievable. They couldn't find answers & so felt like they've lived enough & decided to end their lives.

What do we say happens after doing the supposed everything. Well, as humans, we can never be perfect in our dealings and so we should just endeavor to enjoy life in its entirety with the belief we can never have it all and we can never do it all.
