Leadership as He Saw it

I read about a man who fought for the emancipation of the black race. He lived for one purpose - to produce a world where his children will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

He was criticized and persecuted for his beliefs and values especially as regards racial discrimination yet he cared enough to see truth prevailed than to be accepted by "everyone".

He wanted the best life for all and not just for himself. This is leadership exemplified by Martin Luther King Jr.

The test of leadership is seen in selflessness. Wanting the best for all you have been called to serve.

Great leaders would lay down their lives for what they believe in. They care too much about a better future such that selling their birth rights isn't an option.

He was black which means great leadership is not color biased. We have seen the opposite of Martin Luther King Jr especially in Third World countries. Leaders who think only of themselves and theirs.

A one time governor of a state in Nigeria once said publicly that his second term as governor was for himself and his family that he had used his first tenure for the people.

Such a greedy and selfish approach to leadership!

This is how the so-called governor saw leadership. To be taking care of instead of serving, even though Nigerian public office holders are the highest paid in the world.

A country where billions of naira is spent on mere cutlery allowance for politician(s). This makes you wonder what leadership is all about.

The simple truth is that these Nigerian politicians don't deserve to be called leaders but dealers because they feast on the vast wealth and treasures of the nation and only give peanuts or nothing to the common people they took an oath to serve.

This is same for most other African countries. I look forward to an AFRICA where the leaders will learn to see and understand leadership through the lens of the late great leader & activist, Martin Luther King Jr.

So I end by asking: How do you see leadership?

Thanks for reading.

See you on the next one!
