You will know what I'm going to say if you have ever taken a few weeks off from exercise and then done a strenuous workout.
It can be difficult to get the first workout back after a long break, but it's typically the soreness that comes a couple of days later that's really brutal.
For instance, after a few weeks off, if you do a squat workout,it can hurt to simply sit in a chair or climb the stairs later that week.
One of the quickest ways to resolve this soreness is very counterintuitive:
Squat again.
A few days after a squat exercise, if I feel sore, then doing some light reps is always the fastest way to recover from the soreness. Currently,
I opt for three sets of ten squats for my bodyweight. The first couple are awkward, but then my muscles limber up and by the end of it, I feel much better.
What will this be like? If the pain was caused by squatting, why would it be resolved by further squatting? It's kind of like saying,
"I've spent too much money, so spending a little more money is my solution."
This makes no sense on the surface. But, as you might suspect, something more profound is going on here. It's called the Repetitive Bout Impact, and far more than just exercise contributes to it.
