Looking at the writings on social media and various media about Steven Hawking, it seems to me that the writings are wicked and degrading due to exaggeration. Because we had a bigger scientist but we didn't do that with him. So writing about Hawking seems like an exaggeration to me. It is not difficult to see this exaggeration, in fact Bengalis have no self-esteem. There is no ability to highlight one's own tradition. They just neglect themselves and dance with strangers on their heads. That is why, despite being very talented, our position is in the abyss.
I was saying that there were many more talented and great scientists in Bangladesh than Hawking. He is Jamal Nazrul Islam. He was born on 24 February 1939 in Jhenaidah. It is said that even if the names of the seven best scientists of the modern world are mentioned, the name of Jamal Nazrul Islam will come. He is known all over the world as JN Islam and to scientists Bangladesh is known as the country of JN Islam. JN Islam was Hawking's roommate, friend and colleague in Cambridge. JN Islam, a close friend of about half a dozen Nobel laureates, was said to be one of the most talented people in the modern world. Let me give you two examples of why this was said. It took three years to pass the Tripos in Mathematics from Trinity in Cambridge. JN Islam stunned the world by completing it in two years. In 2001, scientists around the world said that the earth was being destroyed. At that time, Jamal Nazrul Islam reassured the people of the world by doing mathematical calculations, there is no such fear. Because, according to the natural law, even if all the planets of the solar system move along the same straight line, there will be no harm to the planet called Earth due to its effect.
He did so well in the admission test at the collegiate school in Chittagong that the teachers admitted him to a class one with double promotion. Father Sore, a teacher at St. Xavier's College, Calcutta University, used to call JN Islam a living computer. Where other scientists worked with computers and calculators, JN Islam would do big calculations without them. He used to say, computer is unnecessary to me. However, he never denied the general need for computers.
Speaking about JN Islam, a physicist, mathematician, astronomer, cosmologist and economist, Hawking said, "JN Islam is my roommate, friend and we were each other's teachers." Among the scientists Hawking researched from 1980 to 1980 was JN Islam. Was one of them. For example, the Bengali scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose invented the first radio, but the credit went to Markney. The same thing happened with JN Islam. If Stephen Hawking is a world-renowned physicist, then JN Islam is world famous. No newspaper in Bangladesh has written about him like this, as it has been written about Hawking. Your brother, sir, is this irritating? I don't know when Bengalis will be able to come out of this feeling.
The discovery of physics had to be proved experimentally, but he could not prove any of Hawking's descriptions. He was not awarded the Nobel Prize for this. So many people think that Hawking is more of a science fiction writer than a great scientist. He was undoubtedly gifted, but the worldwide publicity he received was not just for merit, but for his illness, being a non-Muslim and a British citizen. But Jamal Nazrul Islam did not get such an assessment from his own country. How is the spread without publicity? Jamal Nazrul Islam's book 'Krishnabivar' published by Bangla Academy has been read in various universities in the East long before Hawking's black hole theory. But none of us know that. Even though I knew, no one preached it.
JN Islam was also known as Genius Islam in the scientific community all over the world. Japanese professor Masahito said, ‘Jayant Narlika, a famous Indian astrophysicist, was a classmate of JN Islam. Jamal Nazrul Islam was a close friend of Frederick Hale, Nobel laureate Brian Josephson, Stephen Hawking, Professor Abdus Salam, Richard Feynman and Amartya Sen. I have heard JN Islam many times in their mouths. JN Islam's The Ultimate Fate of the Universe was written in 1973, but Hawking's A Brief History of Time was written in 1983. Comparing the two books, JN Islam's book is undoubtedly the best in any consideration. But in the brief history of time that we have brawled, we have not done a single millennium of JN Islam's Ultimate Fate.
Hawking spent most of his valuable research time with Bengali professor Jamal Nazrul Islam. Their relationship evolved from personal friendships to family friendships. Hawking's eldest son Robert, daughter Lucy and youngest son Timothy loved Jamal Nazrul Islam's company. Jamal Nazrul Islam's two daughters Sadaf Yas Siddiqui and Nargis Islam were very dear to him. Lucy came to Bangladesh in November 2014 to attend the Lit Fest at the invitation of Sadaf Jas. Amartya Sen, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, was a close friend of Jamal Nazrul Islam. When he came to Bangladesh in 1990, he went to Chittagong to meet his friend Jamal Nazrul Islam. When Nobel Prize-winning scientist Abdus Salam arrived in Bangladesh in 197, he landed at the airport and told JN Islam to report. Professor Abdus Salam also gave a medal to JN Islam during that visit. It may be mentioned that Jamal Nazrul Islam was a senior of Hawking but a junior of Abdus Salam and Amartya Sen.
In the words of Professor Susanna, a Cambridge teacher, "The Ultimate Fate of the Universe by JN Islam is many times more effective and scientific than Hawking's A Brief History of Time." The Brief History of Time has sold 10 million copies. If this were to happen to science, JN Islam's The Ultimate Fate of the Universe would sell 100 million copies. But did not.
Why? Because there was no publicity. We didn't. JN Islam Muslim, JN Islam Third World people. So the West did not get due importance. The people of the country of JN Islam could not highlight him, why would others? The book Rotating Fields in General Relativity, written by JN Islam and published from Cambridge, is said to be a unique book in modern science. Most Bengalis know nothing about that. If the people of the house do not keep the news of the achievements of the people of their own house, then why should the people outside keep it? Apart from JN Islam's The Ultimate Fate of the Universe, no other Bengali book has been translated into Hebrew. His three books and two articles have been taught at hundreds of universities around the world, including Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard and Preston. But I do not know whether it is taught in any university in Bangladesh. As such, Jamal Nazrul Islam is a much bigger scientist than Hawking.
Jamal Nazrul Islam was a patriot from head to toe. He has saved money from his own income and arranged for the education of poor students. In 1971, he wrote a letter to the British Prime Minister asking him to take steps to stop the invasion of Bangladesh by Pakistani forces. After all, Jamal Nazrul Islam left a lucrative job worth thousands of pounds abroad and moved to Bangladesh. Not only that, before Muhammad Zafar Iqbal returned to the country, he sought the advice of Jamal Nazrul Islam, he encouraged Zafar Iqbal to return to the country quickly. Thought you would get a chance to do something for the country. Back in the country, he started working at his hometown (Jhenaidah) Chittagong University on a scholarship of only 3000 rupees. Thought the country would be able to evaluate him, but could not. We Bengalis could not give him anything but that three thousand rupees. If he had not come to the country, the world would have got a lot. Selfish JN Islam has deprived the world for his country. He passed away on March 17, 2013.
Because there was no publicity.
