Dynamics Of Sexual Temptation

INTRODUCTION

"Flee sexual immorality..." 1st Corinthians 6:18a. "For this is the will of God, your sanctification" 1st Thessalonians 4:3 "Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall". 1st Corinthians 10:12.

A careful study of the society reveals that sexual immorality is the most widespread sin in schools, higher institutions, offices, business, or commercial sector, communities, towns, even in some churches. In a recent poll of the temptations confronting men, the issue of sexual immorality ranked number one i.e 65%. What this means is that sex is man's toughest temptation.

The devil uses sexual immorality to destroy the lives and families of people. Many homes have been destroyed. Many homes have been scattered.

Many people are already engrossed in guilt and covered with shame and reproach because of this sin.

Worst still is the fact that many people young and old are on their way to hell because of the power of sexual immorality.

It is therefore wise to carefully allow the Holy Spirit through the word of God help us overcome sexual temptation and prevent rape which the devil is using to physically and emotionally assault the females, even children in the society.

Before We Consider How A Person Can Be Tempted, it is good to consider the powerful forces behind sexual immorality.

1. Presumptuousness of the flesh (1st Corinthians 10:12). Some people in their pride fail to take caution. They become careless because they feel they can never go so low as to commit sexual sin.

2. People don't just fall into sexual sin suddenly, but they slide into it.

3. The beginning of a slide into sexual immorality may seem harmless that the person may not be aware of it until it is too late e.g. pornography.

4. Self deceit (Jeremiah 27:9) Above all other sins, sexual immorality is a sin which the victims try to cover at all costs.

5. Once a person begins to slide into sexual sin little by little, it becomes difficult for the person to retrace his step. Sexual Temptation will become the most powerful force to resist. The victim will be ready to forsake spouse, children, church, even Jesus just to gratify or satisfy sexual lust.

6. Another powerful force behind sexual temptation is the unrestrained look at the opposite sex. Remember that the eye is a gateway to the heart (Genesis 39:7, judge 14:1, 1st Samuel 11:2).
