Afghanistan became the last front of the Cold War after the Soviet intervention in 1979. However, with the withdrawal of Soviet troops in 1989, the world's attention shifted to Eastern Europe and the disintegrating Soviet Union. Afghanistan has faced disdain from the international community. As the situation worsens, interpersonal conflicts persist. Pakistan is suffering too. First, we have nearly 4 million Afghan refugees without international assistance. Second, Afghanistan has become a base for extremist forces such as al-Qaeda, a group of young Arabs in exile who were brought to Afghanistan 10 years ago. We support this process and the efforts of the government of President Karzai and Afghanistan to restore normalization and stability. Making peace with Afghanistan is important and important for Pakistan.
