Fact about blasphemy

Judaism Christianity and Islam (Abrahamic Faith) prescribed punishment for Blasphemy:

Human right activists’ lawyers, nominal Muslims and Christians and those whose hearts are diseased, need to know that a Muslim is obliged to believe that abusing/defaming Jesus Christ is equally abusing/defaming Muhammad and all other Prophets of Abrahamic faith, (May Allah’s Peace and blessings be upon them all). On the other hand, an uninformed Muslim that raises dust over “Quran and Sunnah did not prescribe punishment for abusing the Prophets” are misguided who have thrown their Islamic identities and ideals into dust bin. Their take, is devoid of scholarship and insight into the Quran and Hadith and clearly is opposed to the established Islamic sources (Quran and Sunnah). This misconception arises as result of concentrating on the content and literal meaning of the verses, while ignoring the context and circumstances surrounding the revelations of the verses they usually misquoted in support of their claim. They also ignore Hadith, the second most important source of Islamic faith and Shariah. Thus, prescribing death penalty as the punishment for blasphemy against the Prophets.

Islam regards blasphemy against the Prophets a very heinous crime and the Quran strongly forbids blasphemy and makes the following reference to it:

“….If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease and those who spread rumors (defaming the Prophet and Islam – emphasis mine) in al-Madinah do not cease, We will surely incite you against them; then they will not remain your neighbors therein except for a while. Accursed wherever they are found, [being] seized and massacred completely. [This is] the established way of Allah with those who passed on before; and you will not find in the way of Allah any change…..” Qur’an 33: 60-62

ﻟَّﺌِﻦ ﻟَّﻢْ ﻳَﻨﺘَﻪِ ﺍﻟْﻤُﻨَﺎﻓِﻘُﻮﻥَ ﻭَﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳﻦَ ﻓِﻲ ﻗُﻠُﻮﺑِﻬِﻢ ﻣَّﺮَﺽٌ ﻭَﺍﻟْﻤُﺮْﺟِﻔُﻮﻥَ ﻓِﻲ ﺍﻟْﻤَﺪِﻳﻨَﺔِ ﻟَﻨُﻐْﺮِﻳَﻨَّﻚَ ﺑِﻬِﻢْ ﺛُﻢَّ ﻟَﺎ ﻳُﺠَﺎﻭِﺭُﻭﻧَﻚَ ﻓِﻴﻬَﺎ ﺇِﻟَّﺎ ﻗَﻠِﻴﻠًﺎ

ﻣَّﻠْﻌُﻮﻧِﻴﻦَ ۖ ﺃَﻳْﻨَﻤَﺎ ﺛُﻘِﻔُﻮﺍ ﺃُﺧِﺬُﻭﺍ ﻭَﻗُﺘِّﻠُﻮﺍ ﺗَﻘْﺘِﻴﻠًﺎ

ﺳُﻨَّﺔَ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﻓِﻲ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳﻦَ ﺧَﻠَﻮْﺍ ﻣِﻦ ﻗَﺒْﻞُ ۖ ﻭَﻟَﻦ ﺗَﺠِﺪَ ﻟِﺴُﻨَّﺔِ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﺗَﺒْﺪِﻳﻠًﺎ

The Prophet Muhammad SAW had shown the practical application of the above verse, At the conquest of Makkah. He announced general amnesty to all except those who were guilty of blasphemous acts and sacrilegious statements. The Famous Hadith books of Sunan Nisa’I and Abu Dawud, narrated that, a slave Jew woman was killed by her master for her repeated blasphemy against the Prophet and when the case was brought to the Prophet’s notice he did not condemn the action of her master. (Hadith No.4348)

All Islamic scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah have unanimously in all the ages (Ijma), agreed on the death punishment to be meted on a Muslim who committed act of blasphemy.

You may wish also to know that not only Islam prescribes severe punishment for blasphemers but most of the major religions have prescribed death as punishment for blasphemy. It is stated in the Old Testament (Holy Bible), which is the authority for both the Jews and Christians:

“…And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and the entire congregation shall certainly stone him….” [Book of Leviticus 24:16]”

Let Human right activists Lawyers know that Love for the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and defending his honour is an important part of belief for a Muslim and, thus, guarantees peaceful coexistence among the citizen (the actual human right). To defend the Prophet is, indeed, a service to humanity and nobility too.

On the carrying punishment on the blasphemer, Muslim individuals are not allowed to take matters in their own hands. It is only a competent court of law has the jurisdiction to prosecute and the Governor should use the constitutional power vested in him to punish the perpetrator.
