Have you heard the song “Scared of Lonely” by Beyoncé? If you haven’t, listen to it, it’s a beautiful song. After I heard it immediately, I told myself, “This is my theme song” because I had a fear of being alone for years. Mind you, I’m only 27 years old, but when I first heard it, I was 17 and already had a fear of loneliness.
This fear of loneliness steamed from seeing my single divorced mother suffering from depression and alcoholism, and I was afraid of ending up just like her. But once I surrendered my worries and fears to God, he removed the fear of loneliness. This took years, though, it didn’t happen overnight.
I was in a dark place a few years ago after my mom passed away, and I ended a long-term relationship that I thought would last forever, and I needed a transformation in my life. I was trying to cope with the darkness in unhealthy ways and was tired of feeling depressed. I started attending church regularly and reading The Bible daily.
One day as I was reading The Bible, there was a verse that stood out to me, it was, Isaiah 41 verse 10 (NIV), “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” It was an instant reminder that I am not alone, that God would be with me always. I would meditate on this verse and would pray to God to remove the fear of loneliness, but I didn’t feel a breakthrough until I fully surrendered all my fears.
Seeking God, meditating on his word, and praying were what genuinely helped me surrender all my fears and eventually remove the fear of loneliness. I learned that God brings peace to your soul and comfort, knowing that He is with you no matter what you are facing.
Are there any fears that you are holding on to that you can release to God? He can help you overcome them and remove those fears from your heart. All you have to do is trust him. He promises good things to those who place their trust in him. Like we are told in 2 Samuel 7 verse 28 (NIV), “Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.” If he removed my deep fear of loneliness, he can eliminate the fears in your heart as well. Love, Heidy!
Thank you Heidy for sharing your grace-filled, beautiful heartwarming, story! Friends, FEAR is really a very big liar — a broken record that repeatedly plays back reasons and excuses and holds us back from the plans God has for us. One of the best piece of advice I can offer — backed up by the WORD. — “Trust in HIM at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him, for God is our refuge.” Selah. — Psalm 62: 8. Amen! God bless.💕
