Advanced achievement through promising less - How do I apply this in real life?

My ex-boss taught me this - how advanced achievement works. I'm really grateful that he taught me this so I can apply it and do good in the future. He didn't do that when I was working with him but the time I left the organization.

It's because it's a hack ;) Maybe that's why he didn't want any of his employees to apply this at his organization.

Let's see how it works.

Suppose you have a deadline. You know that you can meet that with proper time management. But let your company know that how big it is for you to achieve that, how much input you have to give to achieve that goal. Promise less, say that you may not gonna meet the deadline. Then submit it before that. It may sound unethical but it's not. Because you are doing what you are supposed to, even before the deadline.

This small trick will make an impact and let others think about how advanced-achiever you are, how hardworking you are.

You can also apply this in your personal life too.

  • If your friend asks you to bring a dish to the party, bring more than one. But say, you may not make it.

  • Or in a restaurant, while ordering food, express with your gesture that you can not pay that much bill. But pay it off in the end.

Again I'm saying, it may sound ethical. But it's actually not. Because you are just creating a small impact on people. You are tricking them to think you are a good achiever, always keep promises, do more than what you are supposed to.

It's a good life hack if you can apply this wisely.

Don't try to be an overachiever all the time but sometimes. So people can trust you. In this business world, it's very necessary to prove yourself. And this can be a nice trick you can apply.
