Life of A Working Student

4 36

Most of us have dreams and some of us are still figuring things out about ourselves, it's okay. Dreams are expensive despite your social status. We might think people who were born with a silver spoon have an easy life and can get what they wanted, it's never like that. The price of achieving goals is more than money, you cannot purchase intelligence, wit, humor, character, and love -you need to earn it by hard work. Whether someone is born in a prestigious family like the Marcos or Aquino, or you were born in a low-income family. Think of this, if you have a difficult time earning money to sustain your family's needs and your dream and you keep on comparing yourself to Sandro Marcos who came from a rich family, has decent clothes, an amazing educational background, and is very intelligent. But did it ever come to your mind the pressure Sandro carry over his back, he is a direct descendant of the Philippines' greatest tyrant in history? Every day people talk ill about their family, they were being outcasts in the Palace, every day there is an article being released digging up stories about their family. There are thousands of people who want to harm them. If you think he is greater than you, will you be grateful to be in his shoes?

I am not here to defend the Marcoses or discuss Philippine history. I am here to tell you that your current social status is not the basis of being successful. We have no hold on how our life will start because it is out of our scope to which family we will have belonged, but it is part of our free will to choose the path that we want as we grow.

Stop blaming the government for your being unemployed or being in a misfortune. As long as you wake up, there is an opportunity that waits for you to work on yourself. Get all the legal jobs that you can until you can have the job that you dreamed of.

It is never wrong to be a service crew, a housekeeper, a babysitter, a tutor, or frying patties at McDonald's. People might say it's a "lame job" for college level, who cares? Being a college student requires a lot of time and dedication so I understand why some students choose part-time jobs. The university already took 8 hrs of our day, if we get a full-time job we will end up losing our dream.

See, people will judge you in accordance with what you do for a living. They give you the amount of respect depending on how much you earn. People will call you too ambitious for wanting to be a doctor or lawyer while you are struggling to put food in your mouth. But who cares? The only person that knows if you can reach that goal is yourself. Set aside what people will think about you. They are just noisy cymbals.

I am not writing this for you to act arrogant or proud. I am writing this for you to be aware that no matter what you do people will drag you down and all you need is to strengthen your mind. I have been a working student for most of my college days. In those days I have learned something that can't be taught in school. I have heard stories that are as great as in books without alterations. I have survived and developed my character.

Being a working student does not help you to earn, it will help you to become a better person. You will realize the weight of your dream when it's your salary that you will use to pay your tuition.

To all working students out there, hang in there we will be to the place where we should be.

Don't mind what other people say, as long as you are aware that you are doing your best without hurting others, that's good enough. You don't need their permission. You only need yourself. Don't let others control you by letting them drag you down. I am very proud of you, really. You are doing great. You should be proud of that. I am cheering for your success. Its nice meeting you by the way.. :)
