The power of imagination
Imagination is that aspect of the human brain to allows us to be creative and resourceful. It is the human faculty responsible for forming new ideas, world views, new images or concepts of external objects which is not yet present to the senses.
The power of imagination can't be overestimated. It is like a deposit that is in every man and waiting to be used to actualise its potential.
Imagination is what takes you farther as a being. When you exercise that cognitive power you are bestowed, it wowed your fellow man.
Some envy you, wishing they had such powerful imagination. Although every man can imagine, but not all men put their imaginative faculty into work.
As Karl Marx once argued, human beings can produce with some sense of creativity.
The beauty you see in the world, aside the ones by nature are nothing but products of imagination. Sometimes when you see a painting, you are marvelled and ecstatic at the same time.
You wonder what was in the artist mind at the time the painting was being made. You could not but wonder how the painting came about. The different patterns, lines, choice of colour and many more. The aesthetic quality of the painting left you wowed.
Same goes for sci-fiction movies. Most times we marvelled at the kind of things that go on in the brain of the script writers. It is wonderful to see how they initially pictured the world they presented for us in the movie.
A good example was Avatar (The Na'vi people and Pandora). The writer created a world different from the human world and infuse the two together with technology. The pictures of mighty rocks standing on a tiny ones or the tiny ropes holding rocks and the power given to a tree believed to have spiritual connection with Eywa on Pandora.
Or should I talk about creative writers of our age? The way they write pages of books that people sit and read for hours and days is amazing.
How they keep engaging their readers in their books, how you keep going back to the same book to read and read again is amazing. You just want to finish reading the book.
Sometimes, you fall in love with the imaginative character created by the writer. You also fall into the the realm of imagination.
You picture the situation being painted in the story. Apparently, you have a clear idea of how the things played out.
It is like you are also present there or watching a movie but you are actually reading a book. This shows how powerful our imaginations can be.
It is that part that distinguishes us from the lower animal. It is the human aspect of us that makes us create and keep creating things that improve our lives and surroundings as human beings.
Without imaginative power, there can't be inventions. Imagination gives birth to the creative inventions we see today among ourselves.
It is a power we have and must use to keep creating with some sense of creativity to better our society. It's in us all. We just need to keep engaging it and it will take us to places.
