Human life moves from one stage to another. For instance, Karl Marx identified five stages in human life which are barbaric/primitive, slavery, feudalism, capitalism and socialism/communism.
Philosophy identifies ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary.
These stages are unique in themselves and have peculiar things that differentiate one from the other.
Generally, we call human eras centuries. Each century also have unique things that differentiate it from another. And our current era is called the 21st century.
A century is a period of 100 years. Our current century will end by 2100 which means 2101 will mark the beginning of another era.
In this era of ours, it is often regarded as the era of civilization. Sometimes called civilization era. It is therefore common to see people regard things they feel should have been forgotten but still present in the 21 century as archaic.
Civilization is seen as process by which a society reaches advance stage in its developmental stages. Literally, civilization is considered the most advance stage in human development.
This advancement is marked by development, innovation, inventions, technology, sophisticated hospital, military, children and adult tools.
Civilization is a deviation from the status quo. It is a force that revolutionize everything that man knew before its emergence.
It is totally and absolutely separation from what used to be the modus operandi to what is not the modus operandi.
Civilization usher in surrogacy, transgender, social media and lot of technological advancement.
The above are some of the things we see in this era as advancement. Surrogacy helps those who could not carry their own baby to do so via the use of egg and sperm. Transgender usher in the freedom to be the gender you want to be. It also ushers in breast, butt and many other transplants for humans who feel they need an upgrade or correct certain things in their body.
Social media seems to be the greatest revelation. With its advent, we are able to reach the world faster, communicate with millions from different parts of the world with ease. It's social media that made it possible for everyone to air their views. Same social media is what we use mostly in this era of pandemic and without it, i wonder what life would have been for us all.
Despite some of the apparent positive advancements, there are still some worries about civilization.
In terms of surrogacy, it has been linked to playing God. Transgender also face similar criticism as it is seen as recreating that which God has created. Many have argued that those who changed from one gender to another will go to hell.
On social media, it has been used as an object of bullying. Many marriages have broken due to news shared with it. Some humans even prefer taking pictures and recording video of immorality and especially accidents instead of saving victims lives.
Some believe it is this same civilization coupled with fertilizer we use in our foods to be responsible for cancer and many diseases that are out there today.
If you look at it, civilization is blamed for our action in a personification manner. Humans, not civilization, is responsible for any success or problem we are experiencing in this era of ours.
We invent, use and control all these tools and knowledge. The way we use them is left to us.
The humans who use these things genuinely or manipulatively are to blamed for its result.
No tools created by man can logically operate itself without the human. Even what we programmed carry out that which is programmed in them.
Civilization as a blessing or a curse depend on humans who advanced their societies and not the tools used in such advancement.
