Jasim Uddin (1 January 1903 - 14 March 1986) was a Bengali poet, lyricist, novelist and writer. Awarded the title of 'Pallikabi', Jasim Uddin is the first full-fledged modern poet to nurture the cultural heritage of the abominable Bengal.   His poems have been translated into many languages.  
Educated at Calcutta University, Jasim Uddin taught at Dhaka University for 5 years;  he left teaching in 1944 to join the Bengal Provincial Government and later the East Pakistan Government's Publicity Department and retired in 1962. Jasim Uddin was a progressive and non-sectarian and a staunch supporter of socialist society.  He was one of the pioneers of the cultural movement in East Pakistan.
